Thread: Let's talk about the War Between the States.
Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by That's Ms Faulkner to you.
This thread is for discussion and debate about the war between the States and the seccesion crisis that led to it and it's aftermath. Let's get talking.
Seriously, what is there to talk about? As far as secession goes we were right, Yankees were wrong. We were wrong about slavery. We were wrong about standard warfare. War is myopic and full of good hind sight. That does no good now. The South lost fair and square,so to speak. We got what was coming. I will always maintain that constitutionally, we were right. I've learned that doesn't win wars. ...
Trogdizzle Thunderclizzle: Viker: We were wrong about slavery. We were wrong about standard warfare. And the yanks weren't? It was a "Civil War". Everyone is wrong then. Constitutionally my side had a clue and a point. It was never really fully right. We employed blacks in our war way to late.
Hello, Y'all- Beau here/half-Yankee, half-Rebel. My dad was from Alabama, and my mom from Ohio...what a match, 'eh? Gives me a pretty unique perspective on this period of U.S. history. Anyhow-I often wonder how much better off we'd be if my [Southern] forebearers had not brought slaves over from Africa (primarily, and a few other places). I know; it's un-PC to think about such things, but that ...

They were fighting for ...

That's Ms Faulkner to you.: This thread is for discussion and debate about the war between the States and the seccesion crisis that led to it and it's aftermath. Let's get talking. The war between characters of faith vs genders with no clue of what is really going on. Doesn't matter between the states or among nations, it is the same fight everywhere for the same reasons. Controlling the ...
The war of northern agression was fought partially on the principle of states rights within the larger union of the country as a whole . Slavery was only one component and for some idea about this you would only have to look at the fact that there were black men that served in the confederacy . The 1st Louisiana native guard ( circa 1861 ) was an all black confederate unit , and before someone ...
Labrat: Trogdizzle Thunderclizzle: Labrat: The reason for the war was quite simple: the South employed forced labor that enabled them to do better (monetarily speaking) than the North. The North, unwilling (and probably just unable, to be quite honest) couldn't keep up so they threw a tantrum. It's as simple as that. :) An elementary way of saying it, but yes. That's basically what happened. Sometime the elementary way is...
spiritusmundi: Mac the MacGyvinator.: That's Ms Faulkner to you.: Trogdizzle Thunderclizzle: That's Ms Faulkner to you.: Please tell me just ONE primary cassus belli of the war between the States that was NOT IN ANY WAY connected to the issue of slavery. Sure it was, but people act as if the Southern states were the only people with slaves. That's not the point, the point is that the Southern States secceeded because they were...

Trogdizzle Thunderclizzle: Mac the MacGyvinator.: Trogdizzle Thunderclizzle: Let me put it to y'all like this: If the war were over slavery, the Union wouldn't have allowed 5 states (including washington D.C.) to keep practicing slavery into the war. They just didn't get the memo, that's all. They were like what, ..... pre DOS back then. It's easy to see why they didn't get the memo. If they'd had...
spiritusmundi: Tony , i think the link i provided would help you to understand the point of view i'm coming from , and It's not from wiki . The site offers photos and other links . It might not be a Wiki but it is nonetheless shoddy IMO. Starting with this: It is not surprising that some have reacted to the claim that Blacks voluntarily served the army of a government that supported the enslavement of members of their race with...
spiritusmundi: And by the way wasnt canada a supporter of the south during the civil war ? Slavery was legally abolished in Canada in 1793, well ahead of the general abolishment in the rest of the British Empire in 1he 1830's. This made Canada the terminus for the Underground Railroad that smuggled escaped slaves north. In Canada, they would be beyond the reach of the Dred Scott Decision although southern slave bounty hunters...
