I didn't like her that much but I think we are all hung up on Laurie being what Jamie Lee Curtis portrayed her years ago, this is a different actress, different writer and director and nobody is going to be Jamie Lee's Laurie's clone.
You do make a very good point that we are all hung up on how well Jamie Lee Curtis did as Laurie. I mean everyone is going to have a different way of portraying a character in a film.
I do not think anyone is going to capture how well Clint Eastwood did Dirty Harry's character at all. I hope that no one tries to remake those movies which are classics.

Laurie reminds me of a modern day Jan Brady in Halloween. Maybe Zombie did this intentionally because he knew he was going to make a polar opposite Laurie in Halloween II.
Even w/ not comparing her to Jamie Lee Curtis, she was horrible.
I watched the behind the scenes casting and she stated how she wanted to put herself, "Scout", into the character. I think that is what made her annoying. No one playing the type of role she was playing shows their parents underage sex w/ a bagel!
She was so annoying in fact, I was rooting to Michael! I felt the same ...
"Curtis' Laurie is not so likable. She's bland.
And she screams like a lawnmower engine."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Nice description.
haha
I thought that Laurie in the new Halloween was ok. She was supposed to be portraying a somewhat normal girl(from a good middle class background)I guess for this day and age. She did seem a little preppy and cutesy at times but maybe Zombie(I could be wrong) wanted to set her up that way. Look at the complete difference between her then and in H2.
I agree that the bagel scene was a little ...
You know what makes me laugh about what he did to that character? He said he did not want to make her that gentle girlscout. And another thing i find hilarious is in certain scenes Laurie wears the nerdy glasses and then you never see them again. Now if she has to walk to school wearing them, why would she take them off in the library? And then walk home again wearing them? Then she has them on when ...
I can't get that bagel scene out of my head. Did they think it was a good idea at the time? Rob Zombie MIGHT have a good movie in him, but this definitely isn't it. I think he needs someone to stand above him and tell him when he's being a jackass.
To me at least she seemed slightly different from her friends but not in the way Jamie Lee was in the original. If they made her similar to Jamie Lee's Laurie then it would have seem really unrealistic.
"Jamie Lee Curtis is a good actress and did a good job at the time in the original Halloween but her character is still a cookie-cutter good girl horror movie cliche and the Laurie of the new Halloween is more realistic and multi-dimensional." There's always a girl in a group of friends like Curtis's Laurie. That's what made her unique and the star; you really wanted to see her survive. the other girls were...

by - CaptainHowdy187 "The bagel scene was terrible!!! zomg!!!" It's a teenage girl making a sex joke to get a reaction out of her mother just for fun, big deal! it's typical behavior of a teenage girl, why don't you go to your local mall and vilify every little harlet getting around acting stupid then if it bothers you so much? I get a chuckle out of that as well. My god, people. Lighten up. Back off! ... Way...
