The Godfather Part II *****/*****
Just as strong and gripping as everybody had told me. Enthralled by the unravelling of Kay and Michael's relationship. Can't believe I put this one off for so long.
Norma Rae ***.5/*****
Brought to mind the more recent Erin Brokovich. Similarly touching coverage of both the work life and personal life of a working class woman. Sally Field was magnificent...
Quantum of Solace ** out of *****
The duchess *** out of *****
Better than I expected,I've never liked Keira Knightley, but she is really good in this. Ralph Fiennes is great,as always.
Road to perdition ****!/2 out of *****
I saw it yesterday for the 3rd or 4th time (don't remember).Mendes' best movie (I haven't seen RR yet), unfairly underrated.
Wendy and Lucy - Stirring, poetic, original. Michelle Williams is perfect. 10/10.
Paranoid Park - Interesting, deep, yet very much typical Sant. 8/10.
Gran Torino - Huge disappointment, bad acting, dumb ending, some ok scenes. 4/10.
Doubt - Exposition for the sake of exposition, lame beginning, but great acting. 6/10.
Revolutionary Road - Mendes, Winslet, and DiCaprio shine. The story is ...
PsychoMania- Old British horror film about dudes who come back from the dead. Very cheesy.
Milk- Sean Penn shines in this biopic, and Van Sant's direction is worthy of an award. Still digesting this one.
Frost/Nixon- Fantastic. Give Langella the Oscar.
Cloverfield- i really enjoyed this one.
Man on Wire - Exhilirating. Felt like I was there. Best Documentary in YEARS. 10/10
Persepolis - The animation is so original and fresh. The images bounce out on you and leave an impression. The story offers insight into Iranian culture, but I felt there were parts that definitely dragged and things that weren't as fleshed out or explained as well as they could have been. 8/10
The ...
no country for old man (2007). 8/10
love field (1992). 4/10 ( i love pfeiffer and she was actually quite good in this, but the movie really sucks)
happy-go-lucky (2008). 8/10
the golden compass (2007). 6/10
desk set (1957). 7/10
ps.s. i love you (2007). 6/10
le scaphandre et le papillon (2007). 9/10
mr magorium's wonder emporium (2007). 6/10
Trois Coleurs: Rouge - Irene Jacobs does a pretty good job acting here and the cinematography is beautiful, but the story just doesn't have much going for it? It is interesting, the relationship she begins with the older man and the alternate story going on, but its a bit too confusing in its delivery. The ending pulls it together nicely for a nice fitting end that unites the trilogy. 7/10 The Proposition - Rough and brutal. Superb...
2 or 3 Things I Know About Her (1967) - 2/4 Casablanca (1942) - 4/4 Cloverfield (2008) - 3/4 Fight Club (1999) - 4/4 Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator (1967) - 3.5/4 Man is Not a Bird (1965) - 3.5/4 Underground (1995) - 1.5/4 When a Man Loves a Woman (1994) - 1.5/4
Live Flesh - hidden masterpiece from Almodóvar. probably a 4/4 is justified in this case... it's one of those films that I want to see again sometime soon. And Liberto Rabal is like my newest crush.

I really hoped Lynch would have more screen time.
Brothers (viewed: 12-06-09) The first third of the film feels too much like one film forcing itself into another, and the overall story is lacking in terms of meat or character development. Nevertheless, I found myself drawn to the story and the acting was quite good. Overall, it's a decent film but much more could have been done with it. ***/***** Up In The Air (viewed: 12-6-09) It's hard to judge this film because it doesn't...
shank- 2.5/5 good gay sex scenes. other than that, laughable. the box- 3/5 good acting. suspenseful at times but ultimately senseless and worthless. the blind side- 3/5 sandra bullock's role and performance were nowhere near as good as the hype led me to believe. i did appreciate her subtle touches but the movie is seriously just one of those movies that feature an african american as a child-man to be educated by the white person. a lot...
Grey Gardens Barrymore and Lange shine. 8/10 Juno Don't understand the hate it gets, there's nothing wrong with it at all. And Ellen Page is awesome in this. 7/10
