Thread: Kissin' don't last, Cooking do!------Dinner November 5th?

Started 1 month ago by PoorOldMama
Tonight I will be trying to make some chicken tikka masala (cheating with a Whole Foods spice packet) served on rice with a side of the Curried Red Lentils with Coconut Milk from SE and raw green beans and carrots. Also have some frozen naan from TJ's. No dessert -my people still have Halloween candy.

Chicken Piccata with jasmine rice, green salad with feta, pinenuts and dried cranberries and some nice crusty rolls. And thanks to all those who gave me delicious soup ideas...I have stock going in the slow cooker and am going to be having some of those soups for breakfast and lunch for the next week!

Going Indian tonight: some sort of red lentil and chickpea stew, basmati rice, curried cabbage , turkey breast

I put a roast in the crockpot with some big carrots (not baby ones), b sized red potatoes and an onion quartered. Some chicken stock (because there was an open carton of it in the fridge needing to be used up) for moisture and lots of herbs. Hopefully 12 hours on low will do the trick. Planning to whip up some cornbread to eat with it. And Halloween candy for dessert.

@PoorOldMama- TJ's naan is the best! acorn squash soup (from a recipe from this here site) with sauteed kale. Great under-the-weather food

Shredded Mexican beef burritos, black beans and cumin rice, shredded cabbage-lime-cilantro-jalapeno-chopped tomato salad and maybe, just maybe some tomatillo sauce and margaritas. That's an awful lot of food for two people. The kids are working tonight.

@italiagirl--there's nothing like a taste of home, is there. I have a feeling that as my boys go off to college and beyond, there will be some special requests. My younger one likes to cook, so he'll be asking for the recipes to make for himself.

Reality of dinner--No red lentils ANYWHERE in my suburban town! Still made tikka masala but picked up two premade ditties for the sides--Rajma masala (red kidney bean curry) and dal bukhara (black lentil curry) each to see if the people liked them and would make them-for real- again. Big success except for spilling rice out of the bowl---silly red wine at a reception before dinner!!!

Confession- Got home late and didn't feel like cooking. Ordered a take and bake pizza. Got home. Discovered oven isn't working. Returned to take and bake and asked them to fire it in there oven. We all got a chuckle out of it (pizza guy, customers and me..well, not really me.) Called service repair man this morning......phhhttt!
