Thread: Kern Protection Failure

Hi, did a recent post related to this, but I figured that if I called it 'Kern Protection Failure', it might attract someone who knows about it. Basically, whenever I open Safari it closes immediately, asks me to send a report to Apple, and comes up with the name of Kern Protection Failure. Has anyone heard anything about this, because I have been searching other threads, and there does not ...

What does crash.log say? Kern Protection Failure can usually just be a corrupt system framework. Check Console and if you see anything related to .framework reinstall the OS, and use direct download updates instead of software update

Again, I re-iterate most strongly, all you are doing is damaging your install of OSX further by all this messing around. Back up your data, reformat your hard drive, and re-install OSX . Yes we know your optical drive doesn't work -- either fix it or get a FireWire based external DVD drive. Poke around the way you have been for much longer and your machine won't boot, leaving you ...

Alright, thank you for the advice. I think your right, poking around would not be a good idea. Will leave damaged apps alone until I can get the OSX reinstalled.

Apps aren't usually damaged, it's usually something else causing the problem. If we can see the crash log, it would help.

Yes we know your optical drive doesn't work -- either fix it or get a FireWire based external DVD drive. Poke around the way you have been for much longer and your machine won't boot, leaving you no choice. Back up now before you lose everything.

Apps aren't usually damaged, it's usually something else causing the problem. If we can see the crash log, it would help.
