Hi, did a recent post related to this, but I figured that if I called it 'Kern Protection Failure', it might attract someone who knows about it.
Basically, whenever I open Safari it closes immediately, asks me to send a report to Apple, and comes up with the name of Kern Protection Failure. Has anyone heard anything about this, because I have been searching other threads, and there does not ...
What does crash.log say?
Kern Protection Failure can usually just be a corrupt system framework.
Check Console and if you see anything related to .framework reinstall the OS, and use direct download updates instead of software update
Again, I re-iterate most strongly, all you are doing is damaging your install of OSX further by all this messing around.
Back up your data, reformat your hard drive, and re-install OSX . Yes we know your optical drive doesn't work -- either fix it or get a FireWire based external DVD drive.
Poke around the way you have been for much longer and your machine won't boot, leaving you ...
Alright, thank you for the advice. I think your right, poking around would not be a good idea. Will leave damaged apps alone until I can get the OSX reinstalled.
Prepare for a really long crash report...
(I got my hands on an external DVD drive, so will be reinstalling OS as soon as possible.)
