I spent the last three weeks changing my head gasket, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, it was a nightmare, it made me never want to work on cars again... I had a bad experience with KW block sealant. HG was gone, didn't replace it, just used the sealant. problem went away for 2 months or so, T-Stat ended up getting clogged, car overheated, block cracked...engine dumped and swapped.
What happened? You overheated the engine and blew the headgasket? The heads are aluminum and very fragile when it comes to overheating. I know on my S52 when it overheated, it not only cracked the head, but warped it as well, and unfortunately this means new head. Fortunately you can use the M50 head, and just swap the whole valve-train over (including valves, springs, cams, ect). I got the ...
Thanks for the advice, and i am also relieved to know that i am not alone in having such a hard time working on their car. I had gotten the feeling from all the DIYs that it was easy for them and had gotten discouraged. Also, your only up in Del Mar, is there a local BMW club that meets for track days and the like?
