OK, mounted a 5" rear wheel laced to talon hub on my 2008 450 EXCR with a 160/60 Conti SM tire. No way will it clear the chain. I have do run 5mm difference on the chain blocks to get enough clearance so that the rear wheel will roll. To the point where the sprocket touches the chain guide. I have read others have installed this wheel so what gives?
I sent the wheel back to Motostrano an...
the offset was incorrect. it should be 19-21mm offset off sprocket mounting flange to give chain clearance. Also you should run a 150 series tire because it is designed to go on a 4.5 to 5.0 inch rim. Motostrano does not build wheels so they dont know offsets. Those wheels came from Qtm inc.

I'm by no means an expert such as the previous posters....but I run a
5"/160 or 165 combo on my 550 Berg,450 SMR and 250SX-F, in fact I know a couple guys who run 5.5" wheels on their 250's with stock swing arms...
I'm also the guy who does spoke offsets to get the tire away from the chain.... I've also done spoke offsets on the fronts of two of my bikes...two of my bikes have seen over 100...
I have same problem, 05' ktm450exc, 5" rim, 160/60 pirelli super corsa.
The chain has rubbed off about 4mm of tire I'm guessing. I bought a spacer kit to shift the sprocket over a little.
from this guy.

He doesn't make them any more though.
I might even offset the rim a little too.
there was a user selling a new unopened kit on here....
I have an 05 525 EXC with a 5" rear rim. The chain guide on the top of the swing arm keeps the chain from hitting the tire. The guy that laced my wheels has a lot of experience so maybe he figured in an offset, but mine works great, no problem. I had to ditch the bottom chain guide, no way that will fit.
The option of offsetting the wheel to much to the right just doesnt sit will with me. In my road racing experience (two AFM championships, two WERA seasons), we always worked so hard for perfect alignment. I going with the 4.25" in correct alignment with no chain guide gimmicks for clearance (or less anyway). I am trading the wheel for the smaller size, now on to experiment with 150 size tires...
any of those spacers cause undo stress on the components...and constantly need to be checked for tight ( loctite does help)....at least thats what i have seen from two guys up here....as far as alignment ...these are dirt bikes with 17 inch wheels and were designed to have a 21 inch front and a 19 inch rear that run approx 40 to 50 mph average speed, with dirt sections wheel alignment in my ...

I'd kill for 6mm.
+3 don't get rid of the lower chain guide. Just wack off the inner mount and put the thing back on sans the cage part.
And Brian is spot on with is assessment of perfect wheel ...

if you can get a hold of them, maxxis/goldspeed street legal slicks. if that's not an option, think my next choice in line would be the pirelli dragon (left) or diablo (right) supercorsa pro tyres if they have to be street legal. they're pretty pricey though, I used them because I could get a hold of trackday take-offs so it didn't cost me so much to run them.
