Thread: Just Bought an '09 Stormy Blue Mica today!

Started 4 months, 1 week ago by CCM1
Well, I got my new car today, the '09 Stormy Blue Mica, automatic. Gone is my old go cart, the '96 Miata. So Jazz, my old gal is gone, and now I have Candy, my new date. If she runs well, I hope to keep her a long-long time, as I feel the end may be near for such cars in the future. I do have a question about a strange sound coming from her. Seems that with the key in ON position, and ...

Congrats on new ride. Stormy Blue is a pretty color on the Miata. I know they have a engine sound ehancement system of some sort on the 09's which is maybe what you're hearing. Hope it doesn't make it sound like a vacuum cleaner though. Hmmmm. I came from a 96 NA also and it will always have a fond spot in my memories. I do like the NC a lot though.

You didn't say if it's a GT or not. It may be the HVAC fan on the auto setting.

MikeyTX replied 4 months, 1 week ago
O/p has a 6A so there is no sound enhancer !

Maybe a dumb guess, but the AC (like MikeyTX said), or the engine cooling fan... but I think it has to get pretty hot before that kicks in...

Congratulations! That's beautiful roadster country, but you knew that...

Congratulations on your new car! I wish you many years and miles of trouble-free motoring. By the way, I think you got the best color!

This is a Sport model, and not the GT. I like to keep things as simple as possible, though I got some goodies along with getting the automatic tranny. I am impressed that the down-shifts and up-shifting is pretty swift with the auto 6sp. First time I ever bought a sports car, or sporty coupe with an auto. Seems to work as billed! Where is the location of the fuel pump on these cars?

Twisted Road replied 4 months, 1 week ago
I think the fuel pump is in the tank on most cars these days, but I can't say for sure on the Miata. (My Workshop Manual is still packed from the move)

Unless the setting for the cooling fans is off. I'm wondering if his car has a bad sensor or, if a cable isn't plugged in all the way thus giving the ecu an improper reading and causing the fans to kick on.

I wear boots to work and my leg would hurt if I had to do any extra driving on the way home. Much better now.

Possibly the noise is a belt that is improperly adjusted. Thank you for sharing your pleasant drive along the coast.

Nice looking car, I hear you, this may be the last of the breed. Is your Dad comfortable in there? My Mom was not too happy when I drove her around in my old Mercedes 350SLK, and that was a MUCH bigger car!

Congratulations and GREAT pictures. Say, were those pictures taken in Cambria, CA? My wife and I visited that area from Maryland and I recognize that little corner store and mountains. If it is Cambria, I have to say they have one of the prettiest roads to take your MX-5. I remember driving my Rental Honda Accord through those breathtaking roads, and all I could think of is how much I wished I had an MX-5..hahaha
