After reading Joel McIvers biography of Metallica "Justice For All", which he's released 5 times in new editions to update it with current events (a 5th time to include Death Magnetic), I instantly lost any chance of respect for him. Sure every person is entitled to their own opinion, but to publish a book that pretty much slanders anything post "...And Justice For All", is plain ridiculous...
QUOTE (thews @ 11/09/09 02:14 pm) People making lists of songs is totally unacceptable. Here's mine: 1. Blackened 2. The Shortest Straw 3. Creeping Death 4. Disposable Heroes 5. One 6. Harvester of Sorrow 7. Master of Puppets 8. Fade to Black 9. Ride the Lightning 10. And Justice for All
he does the same thing we do on this board except he gets it published dont get your panties in a bunch just cause someone has a different view from your own
QUOTE (syn-shadows @ 11/09/09 10:50 pm) Shit, this guy is missing Blackened, Creeping, Straw, Hit The Lights, Battery, AJFA, Whiplash, To Live, Ktulu, Orion... to name just a few... It's a list of 10. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/icon_neutral.gif )
I'm sick and tired of people slandering Metallica thinking Burton was the only reason they made good shit in the eighties. Just listen to his basstracks extracted from Guitar Hero, there's really nothing legendary there. Cliff was a killer songwriter and a good bassist, but man, do people really have to go as far as saying he WAS Metallica or that he was the biggest reason they made that ...
QUOTE (son of dismiss @ 11/10/09 04:39 pm) Songwriting credits don't account for when James and Kirk would write a song and Cliff then put his bassline down. James didn't write all those little fills, they're just not a significant enough contribution to qualify as "songwriting" or "arrangement". Same deal with Newstead, who brought far more to the table than his 3...
QUOTE (Emerald Knight @ 11/14/09 02:44 pm) That is so true! I get tired of hearing less educated people talk about what songs Mustaine wrote all the way into Justice sometimes. I have found that people don't argue based on facts anymore.. they make whatever they can up to help benefit their argument and hope someone doesn't know wiser. Now, I am not at all trying to shift debates here, but I have always felt...
QUOTE (Bleixmaster @ 11/09/09 11:07 pm) Don't get me wrong, as long as I've been a Metallica fan you should know I appreciate Cliff's wonderful music as much as the next guy, but please some of you really have to get some perspective. Some of who? No-one here has even said they agree with McIver's analysis. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/icon_confused.gif )
QUOTE (Bleixmaster @ 11/09/09 03:07 pm) I'm sick and tired of people slandering Metallica thinking Burton was the only reason they made good shit in the eighties. I don't think the Burton praise is half as bad as the Mustaine praise (in terms of Metallica.) Whereas Burton did do a lot for the band, Mustaine helped write six fucking songs, in a style they quickly abandoned, and yet there are so many that want to...
QUOTE (AMH @ 11/10/09 03:49 am) Yup, his opinions really do suck (just my opinion, he he). The last 3 minutes of All Within My Hands?!!! Sure, whatever you say. And why doesn't he have any Cliff Burton's stuff (Orion in particular) in the list??? I mean, in his Metallica biography, this guy gives the biggest credit for Metallica's success + those classic records to Cliff, and then his...

James didn't write all those little fills, they're just not a significant enough contribution to qualify as "songwriting" or "arrangement". Same deal with Newstead, who brought far more to the table than his 3 songwriting credits would suggest, and certain fanboys are willing to...
QUOTE (Bleixmaster @ 11/14/09 06:48 pm) I agree that Cliff seems to have been the most open minded musician in the band at the time, but I don't see how education has anything to do with what you were saying. None of us knew Cliff, so it's a matter of believing James and Lars or not, how would they possibly be sure of Cliff's reaction without hearing it? I'm saying a lot of people are uneducated in not...
QUOTE (Emerald Knight @ 11/14/09 10:44 pm) When he titles the book "The Truth about Metallica" there's a sense that it's official and everything you are reading is true, yet he interjects his opinions every chance he gets. Very poor writing in my opinion. I think it was either Metal Hammer or Kerrang that made the point that, to the die-hard fan, there's actually very little truth left to...
