Hi All my name is Shin
Currently practicing Kendo in Auckland New Zealand.
I always had this eargy to learn Jodan Waza and Katate WaZa ever since I
saw Paul and Max of Nelson dojo doing gaiko in jodan.
I thought it will be useful when I am in a situation to strike a man of one who
is taller then me. I asked my sensi for Advise but unfortunately he didn't
knew ...
Single handed suburi will help a lot but from my very limited experience, strength is not enough, technique is key. I broke my right wrist last Christmas so was playing jodan in a cast! Not ideal I know but the changes I had to make really helped my regular kendo. For me though I found height an issue I'm am only 5'4 and to be honest if I'm fencing a taller Kenshi I find it easier to get into my ...
(Dont take my word for it...im a newb)
I thought only really tall people used jodan. The "Controlling opponent from above" sorta thingy.
I guess you can start with wrist strengthening exercises. I remember a senior telling me something along the lines of doing a katate cut with as much speed and control as I do with my 2 handed cut before trying it out.
Thank you all 0746 What kind of Exercises are there to strengthening wrist. Gee I never noticed Jodan is more for Tall Kendoka T.T but I will try it out as chelengy.

.
I'm quite tall, and I have fenced opponents 2/3's my size in Jodan. Although I'm looking down on them, the threat from the shinai is ...

I am not sure, but that sounds like a good way to injure your wrist or elbow....
Bokushingu, yeah! One needs to understand (when/if ever that happens...in my case). Yes, train the Jodan but don't neglect the Chudan: possible case in point was when watching a young (female) Kendoka doing Jodan, I asked her Sensei where she learned it since he, a (Japanese-) Police Kendo Instructor, only uses Chudan. He said he taught her, and that from Chudan can come Jodan. (FWIW)

Unworthy thank you for your advise and I respect your opinion. Since I have difficulty finding kenshi who can teach me jodan waza I will practice chudan. Even when I am learning Jodan I have no intention of lacking my Chudan kihon. I would like to learn Jodan since I believe it will be useful in some situation. Till I get really good at Jodan I will have Chudan to be my every stance. When I do get good in Jodan and if I do enjoy doing it then...

I trained pretty hard primarily Jodan through-out the first year of Jodan, but switch back to mainly Chudan 4 months b4 the...
