Thread: # Jesus: God or Just a Good Man?

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by Arkanrium
Ok this requires a rather long post so here goes: 1: Jesus was a liar: Their arguments fail on many account, first because they only consider their own point of view More than that, He was a demon, because He told others to trust Him for their eternal destiny. If He couldn't back up His claims and knew it, then He was unspeakably evil. This does not take into account the idea ...

Once a person has been made into a legend, that legend takes on a life of its own, and as such makes that person into something more than they actually were. People die, but legends live on forever.

It is still improbable for any legend, let alone an elusive one about a self-sacrificing pauper from a back-corner of the Roman world, to have more than 2 billion followers (and just as many who know about but reject Him) and to significantly influence everything from language and literature to world history and the world's other great religion. He has certainly forced enough people to make ...

Tronport. Out of all the possibilities, and I have no doubt there are many, I think that statement fits the bill. Couple with we are fortunate to be able to look back in our world and ...

I have found several people that 'call themselves Christian' and still do not understand that to be 'Christian' they should believe Jesus IS God. Probably a reason I could never call myself a 'Christian' I even have some family members' (that obviously do not study their religion) also believe Jesus is only the 'Son of God and not a God at all' My personal opinion and I do not ...

Ditto ficitional character. Similar Paul Bunyan or Johnny Appleseed. Similar difficulty accepting the Trinity (3 in 1) the Immaculate Conception, the confessional (intermediary?).....as if the supposed God didn't know your heart/if truly sorry for your transgressions

Similar Paul Bunyan or Johnny Appleseed. Luck of the draw Sad that I always thought Johnny Appleseed was fact. But I don't think Jesus was a fictional character just blown up out of proportion.

"and still do not understand that to be 'Christian' they should believe Jesus IS God." Speaking of things blown out of proportion, the word Christian and Christianity has come to mean almost anything other than what the basis of the word is supposed to mean. My amazement is similar to Grace's, and I'm speaking as a Christian: People establishing some kind of power on earth in the name of ...

UI, can you explain your explanation to me better? I think I understand you but not quite sure. I do remember reading (or hearing) a couple of years back about 'Christians' or they thought they were Christians. They had/have a defiant belief in God and of Jesus. However they also considered Jesus 'was a mortal man' Most did not believe in the immaculate conception either. My ...

"..what Jesus wants us to do has led to atrocities such as ....... the Holocaust. " I really must object to that atrocious statement. It is sick, inaccurate and objectionable. The actions of the Nazi government had absolutely nothing to do with Christianity except that it was violently opposed to any religion. Moderator? "Which has killed more humans? Beverage alcohol, or religion?" Jesus is NOT religion. In...

UI, If Jesus represents in any way what the Christian God wants, then I can see some comparison to the holocaust being justifiable. I understand that there is a bit of a stretch in logic involved, but nonetheless it has some merit. God and many of His followers, according to the Christian Bible, have committed acts of mass murder and genocide. The Great Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, The First Born of Egypt, are among the many examples in the...

"(sear are you pulling our legs about the beer in the wall?)" Grace You think I could make a thing like that up? No Grace. The house is a ranch house in Stormville, NY. That's where Greenhaven prison is. ""..what Jesus wants us to do has led to atrocities such as ....... the Holocaust. " I really must object to that atrocious statement. What has always struck me as strange, people attending Sunday services where they no doubt pray from what ever is upper most in the mind. However later on in the week they do things which are against the Christen / or any Religion teaching, and back on Sunday to ask for, forgiveness. A little Hypocritical in my book.

sear wrote: And that Billy Beer reference takes me back a few decades. I actually bought a 6-pack of that. I was astounded. It may have been the first beer I ever tried that was so bad, I wouldn't drink it. So perhaps Billy Carter wasn't such a bad guy after all. Perhaps he was trying to get people to stop drinking! Or perhaps he was secretly experimenting with a beer made from fermented peanuts.

Cass....pardon the error.....I'd heard Appleseed a real person also? Perhaps Paul Bunyan and Pecos Pete carved the Grand Canyon would've been more correct? Pretty much in agreement that which you stated. Difficulty....confess you way to heaven. Good "Act of Contrition" get outta jail/hell card. And that which is common/repetitive theme most religious ideologies..."do unto others that wished done unto...

I did not know they really had a 'Billy beer' (sear are you pulling our legs about the beer in the wall?) http://www.str.org/site/News2?id=5460&page=NewsArticle&printer_friendly=1 Every word has a definition and usually the definition entails a couple of different things that make the full definition, and if the details are not there, you can't apply the word. The same is true of "Christian."...

Ok you mean Jesus detested "established religion" as it is understood now... if true it's almost the best religious irony I heard of.

Utopian - I guess if you want to, you can dig up all of the alleged burial grounds and see if any of them match the DNA of the original guy's descendants. Johnny Appleseed is a legend based off of a bunch of stories written about a real man. It wasn't uncommon to write things like that about living people - that's how the legend about George Washington chopping down a cherry tree and being unable to lie about it got started. I,...
