I don't particularly like 4 Poofs and a Piano but they're no more stereotyped than jokes like Olly Williams (the black weather reporter) in Family Guy. I agree with RB. It's a stupid one-dimensional portrayal, but there are far bigger issues. It's not homophobia, just really lazy and tired comedy. At least they're complicit in it and people are laughing with them rather than at them.

I think you're wrong. You have no idea what the majority are thinking. The fact that there were so many complaints in a short period of time suggests that people felt strongly about it and wanted to express that anger - without having a clear sense perhaps of what might result from that, but that really makes no difference whatsoever.
