Exactly that. The bad guy goes back in time frm the Next Generation era and forces a change. Before he goes back, he studied up on Kirk. This is all layed out in Star Trek: Countdown, the four-issue official comic build up to the movie.

In the trailer I heard a quote somewhat similar to that? What do you suppose it means? Is there some bad guy from the already established trek universe going in the past and forcing a re-boot?
What have we heard? When this movie is over is all the continuity we all know going to be thrown out the window?
