Thread: It's Business Time: Flight of the Conchords

Started 2 years, 6 months ago by Jabs
Just watched this on HBO and it was brilliant. I love how the songs start off in a mundane direction and just get more and more amusing and silly. I'll definitely be tuning in, as it's about time HBO produced something for me to watch since they axed Carnivale (noooo I'm not still bitter about that). Should I be worried about the fact that I like this? I've been the kiss of death for two ...

I'm excited about this show. I watched the pilot and became mildly obsessed (youtube searching for old videos of them). I've recommended it to a few other people but it seems their humor doesn't really work for everyone. But HBO is usually pretty good about promoting their shows so I think it should be ok. I can't wait to see what they do with other episodes.

Yay! I'm so happy to see other people are digging this show. I just like its mellowness and unexpected humor as a change of pace from some of the stuff that's so anger-based (which works for me too...just it's different). Also, Flight of the Conchords will reportedly be on Letterman on June 11th to promote the show.

I'm really psyched about this new series - wasn't familiar with the boys until I saw the first epi on HBO's website, which sent me into a mad YouTube flurry. End result was that I'm totally hooked (their song, "Jenny," is particularly funny). To my bemusement (and, I'm sure, the resigned collective sighs of many Kiwis): Wonkette covered an HBO screening party for Flight of the Conchords - and ...

I had heard this show was being previewed early somewhere but I couldn't recall where. So this weekend I went to On Demand to see if it was there. It wasn't but they did have their One Night Stand available. Normally, I'm not too fond of songs with silly lyrics but I kept watching and by the end I was doubled over in laughter. I then found the pilot online. While I didn't find it as funny as...

NY times gave them a great review ! Plus an interview with them in Salon . I'm looking forward to seeing something beyond the pilot.

It helps that I love Kiwi accents (not Aussie ones, just Kiwi), but the premiere of this show had me on the floor with tears of laughter running down my face. If the rest of the series is even half this good, I will be a very happy girl this summer.

It looks like I am the only one who hated his. I spent three years living in Europe so I am well acquainted with the offbeat humor of some other countries comedy shows but I thought this sucked. It actually made me kind of miss Life with Louie, kind of. HBO really needs to get it together because with the Sopranos now gone, Big Love and Entourage are the only shows of theirs that I still enjoy...

I didn't hate it, and the songs were clever, but ultimately they're going to have to show me something more than "different." Overall it's not that funny. I can see some of what they're going for, but from my perspective they're not hitting the target.

I hadn't read a thing about this show until watching it. I thought it was hilarious. While I enjoyed the songs, I didn't laugh out loud until the argument over why the woman left. Was it the roommate turning the light on? Or was it the fact that the woman had previously dated the roommate for six months, a fact that was left out until that very moment. The ensuing deadpan argument was ...

Sugarcane1 ... albmo ...seems like it's been forever! ;D I'm absolutely in love with the Femident commercial. LOVE it! And the song the boys were playing at the club before Proops approached them...what the heck is that? Will that be the new "Who...

Wow, efm , that review is so wrong-headed on every level. This bit: However, the target here is at best nothing and at worst traditionally black genres of music, the slightly concealed, slightly racist sentiment being that there are kinds of music that normatively are relegated to certain groups and isn’t it funny to transgress those boundaries. Hey, writer dude? That's your assumption, and to proceed in your arguments from...

Sigh, it's not unexpected... but still. And it didn't even make enough episodes to go into syndication, so we won't get the joy of stumbling on the constant reruns on TBS.

Aww--confirmation that the show's done. I'm not crying. It's just been raining . . . on my face.

I agree kookiejar, but that last screencap was a gut punch below the belt and I'm not supposed to expound on it? Lol, molly one correction though. The red shirt is unspeakably hot, we cannot find the words to speak on it. Um, I love how the guys didn't even acknowledge the pole dancers at Murray's party. And boy did I fall out when Murray was giving the waiter the "code". Nothing like the hook-up that...

After feeling extremely ripped off over the lack of Season 1 extras, I'm so happy they included some extras on the Season 2 DVD. Sure, the outtakes are 90% Jemaine cracking up, but that's not a bad thing. And I think those are some of the best deleted scenes ever! It was a treat to get a little something new from them. It may have to last us for a long time....

As long as the celebrity guests are used well or kept to a strictly brief cameo, I think pretty much anyone can work. I loved seeing Kate Pierson and Daryl Hall on there last year; they weren't given a lot of fanfare, they were just there totally randomly and it fit with the show and it was awesome. Will Forte is an example of a celebrity guest that was not used as well. He almost took away from the show rather than adding to it. Of...

Alas, my Bretgirl heart is broken--sniff! But seriously, I'm happy for him and his loved ones--it's really cool to think of what kind of dads Bret and Jemaine will be. There, there, there, there, there, there! Aw, they're too cute a couple not to be married. :D A little late, but I thought the episode was hilarious, but surprisingly I didn't like their edit on the Freaky song. I prefer the version they did...

I also didn't have HBO this time around and had to wait to watch the season on DVD. It was worth the wait! I did get a preview of a few of the songs when I saw the guys play in Austin. Even though I was so far away on the 7th floor balcony I could hardly see them it was a great show! I avoided this thread till I finished the season as to not be spoiled. And after spending my Monday morning catching up rather than working...
