Thread: Itchy and Scratchy Show

Started 2 months, 3 weeks ago by Dignity
Ok - maybe not show - but Itchy and Scratchy Denali!! It's always been that come Jan/Feb/Mar, I fight with Denali and her winter allergies. She's chewing her legs and thighs NOW though. I just don't understand because we don't have the A/C on (a closed up house was always her trigger in the past). Her food hasn't changed and has always helped me manage the Itchies. I think it's time to ...

What is a savings account? My first Beagle had to be on Cephalexin every year for skin allergies. Benadryl did help in between really bad flare ups.

I have been giving her Benedryl - but I really don't think this is the best solution (not sure how 'long term' I can give it - so I've been just doing it when I notice she's extra itchy).

Is it time for a bath Dig?

Pooh after bathtime she's still scratchy - guess we'll be going to the vet's in the near future.

Before we identified Roxy's allergies and I was trying to deal with her skin rather then avoiding whatever was causing the reaction, I found a tea-tree oil spray that helped immensely. We didn't go through as much prednisone (she would get skin infections as a result from itching from the allergies), the dandruff from her seborrhea cleared up and her all around attitude was much happier. I ...

Her winter allergies are caused by molds and spores that are in the vent system - my house has been opened with no A/C or heat running - so I know it's not that this time. I have no idea this time what she's allergic to.

Maybe,it's time to put her,on a raw diet or at least,a complete grain free food!!. I know you mix TOTW,with kirkland!. If you can't go raw, just keep TOTW and see if it helps!. I would also wash her feet, everytime she goes outside cos she could be allergic to pesticides or red ants!.

I'm chasing allergies with Kellie too I feel your pain. She has a sore on each leg now from chewing them The only thing I've figured out is chicken. It's not the only thing though as I've discovered. I use a spray lotion for hot spots, skin sores & rashes called Septiderm-V Skin Care Lotion by Green Tree. When it's on, it's good but she even tried to clean it off. I've chased Phoebe ...

I have always treated Denali's hot spots as they've come - normally she gets one hot spot (which I treat) and I start adding oils to her food and it's fixed. This time nothing seems to be helping. I would love more recommendations on what products I could try.

Wash her feet(I use water and dove soap) and dry them!. Then, get some Listerine(I use the blue one)and then Gold Bond(blue bottle)!. Works wonders and pretty inexpensive which is nice!. The Listerine dries the hot spot while the Gold bond helps with the itching!. The lampshade is a must if she goes at it cos it will keep the irritation from worsening!. When she goes out, avoid the grass or anything wet, until it's completly gone or use dog...

Our oldest GSD (going on ten years) has allergies like crazy! So, making sure his diet complies with his allergies and giving benadryl at times makes all the difference. He is also on Animax for his ears. Keeping the house clean with regular vacuuming has helped......
