Sorry accidently posted before I typed
Last night DS got a hold of a cookie, and we took it from him right away, because he has a mild wheat allergy. Well an hour or so later he started crying and coughing and then he threw up all over me, and we noticed his face was rashy and his lips were a little swollen. We called the on call physician and she said not to worry because he would have had ...
I'm of the opinion that any food allergy warrants a trip to the allergist, but for sure that def. warrants an allergist appointment. Sorry that happened :( GL!
Yes. We don't have an allergist at all, only one that comes to our town every 3 months. Did he test positive for any tree nuts? That is our severe one and that sounds similar to what my son went through with his first reaction.
He's never been tested, Our dr. doesn't like to send them for allergy testing before 2, but we pushed for it because of how he reacted. I plan on keeping TN out of our house until then. We knew he had issues, he's always rashy, and doesn't sleep well, we were suspecting wheat at first, but avoiding it didn't seem to help much, and we just found out he is allergic to artificial colors, We never ...
If you can't see an allergist until February, I'd ask your pedi for an Epipen Jr. prescription asap and keep an Epi and Benadryl with you at all times. Definitely sounds like an allergic reaction. I'm sorry!
Our allergist does book way out in advance, but for very small children with serious reactions they can squeeze someone in in less than 6 months. I'd also call and make sure that the allergist's office knows that you are dealing with what sounds like a severe reaction in a young child and that you'd be very interested in getting in before February in case there's a cancellation that opens up an ...
Also you can have your ped order you RAST tests and have the results sent to you. A RAST of the to 13 allergens might give you a better idea of what you are dealing with, and some direction prior to your allergist appointment. Also the allergist can have something to look at in advance of your appointment to give you a game plan more quickly.
I would def ask your ped for an rx for an Epi, and...
I'd consider that a serious reaction with the puking and swelling, and 2nd the asking for epipen rx and carry benedryl- they make single dose packages that make it easy. That seems like a long wait to me- ds just had his peanut reaction and we were in for testing in less than a week. I think dd was maybe a 3wk wait, but that was a couple years ago. For normal appts they want me to call 6wks ...
Thanks so much for all your advice. We went to see the allergist this past week, we got in from the cancellation list. We couldn't do scratch testing because he is on Zantac, and we only got 2 days notice, but we made an appt. for Dec 11 th for that, which is way better than Feb. We're still waiting for results from the blood test, but he did give us a scrip for the Epi-pen, so we at least have ...
