It certainly puts me to sleep but I feel like hell the next day. Anybody have better luck with the rest of the current crop, like Lunesta, Rozerem, Sonata, etc.?

U need Ambien CR. Make sure you sleep for at least 8 hours.
there's a sleep aid that is supposed to work as effectively as ambien, but has a shorter half-life in the body, called "halcion."
in my experiences it works fairly well, but not as well as ambien. it didn't put me down the same way that ambien did. but i felt pretty great in the morning, so maybe it's what you're looking for?
when i took ambien, i'd take a full pill if i knew the next ...
