I think sport aside as Europe gains more power it makes more sense to be part of a larger nation.
I've been a scottish nationalist all my live but I now live and work in Brussels and no way would I want Scottish independance now. One only has to look at how the other small independant countries have faired under this crisis to see why.

You think the UK is the only country with different regions? France, Spain, Italy, the USA for sure, Canada - all have strong regional authorities that have quite different ways of doing things.
Who cares if Wales want to put welsh signs up or Scotland want to abolish tuition fees - if they can afford it good for them (the split of the tax pot is a whole other issue).
I think that we all know that we belong together, no matter if English, Scot, Welsh or Irish; we have a bit of banter etc about our past but we are pretty much 'of a kind' and when we actually get to know each other, find many, many similarities.
You will always get the militant nationalist, but they are usually mindless bigots who know little of our combined history except what they would ...
As a welshman it pains me to say but I really think we would not "survive" without the aid of England (and i think this can be said for both Scottland and N. Ireland as well).
