Thread: Is parcel post considered a downgrade from First Class?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by puffwamcdooey
I don't know anything about USPS. If the shipping method in the ebay auction was listed as USPS First Class, but a buyer bought in quantity so the order ended up being over the First Class weight limit, would they be mad if it shipped Parcel Post? Would they be mad if it shipped Priority? Just don't want to learn the hard way. Thanks.

Parcel post is a huge downgrade; Priority is the correct choice for combining First Class packages, but you *could* check costs for both and give your buyer quotes for both, in case Parcel is considerably less expensive (it usually isn't unless the package is over 12x12x12 or heavy).

Parcel Post is considered 3rd class mail. Try to avoid it for packages weighing less than 10 lbs. First Class Mail and Priority Mail are equivalent in terms of transit time and handling. But do check to see if sending the items separately as First Class Mail (up to 13 oz. per package) is CHEAPER than a single Priority Mail package. Sometimes it is! ~~C~~

Thanks for all your replies and tips. There is no buyer. Perhaps I should have worded a bit differently so that assumption was not made. I just wanted some general opinions before listing so I can plan everything out (free shipping fun). I do know that some consider USPS Priority Mail inferior to UPS Ground and some consider the opposite to be true so I wouldn't state shipping would be one ...

If you are unsure of the speed of your shipment for eg. if they buy multiples, and you combine at say $1 for each additional and total cost of shipping ends up being $4 yet, too heavy for first class which is 13 oz, you could downgrade to parcel post if you sellect standard shipping when you originally list ( that way you have the option, and buyer cannot complain for the so called downgrade, ...
