Thread: Is anyone else completely running out of patience with the entitlement mentality?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by WindyCityThanksgiving
Last night I was out to eat at my favorite bar and restaurant.  I worked late on property and I just needed to stop for a bite around 8:00 p.m.  The bar was more crowded than usual- I figure that it was for Veteran's Day-- and I was right.  The bar was running a promotion of free appetizer and a beer for vets.  I thought that was cool- but there were a WHOLE BUNCH (as in like 10 or so) people ...

They do don't they, I was in the UK in the summer and was mortified about my own family talking about free housing etc. What happened to making it on your own.

What is wrong with taking advantage of something the bar/restaurant is offering?  Are you saying the bar was selfishly motivated to make money off the vets with the pretense of honoring veterans?  I'm happy that the bar lost money if that's the case.  If you offer something for free and someone take you up on that then it's your own fault.  The bar was selfish in attempting to dupe veterans into...

Sorry - after every store "honors our great nation" by giving us a deal on lamps or sheets, or whatever lame thing they are doing for Veteran's Day, President's Day, 4th of July, Easter, etc. etc. - They started it.  If they don't want people taking advantage, then they need to consider their promotion more carefully.   Yes, I hate the entitlement attitude as much as the next guy, but a ...

I read your posts often and don't always agree with you!  However, I think you are right to be rather sad about the whole situation.  My husband is also a vet (actually, he remains a serving reservist) and it wouldn't have occurred to him to behave in such a way.  I am actually an immigrant from the UK and I love living here and will probably become a citizen one day.  I say that so that people ...

However, the manager's insight was this:  last year they did nothing, and several people left in a huff-- a HUFF-- because they felt slighted that there was no special for veteran's on Veteran's Day.   So, offer a free beer with a purchase over $5.  Big deal - you can still make sure you have some revenue stream.  If you set up a "free lemonade" stand - don't be surprised when people take ...

I say that so that people won't think I am in anyway anti-US but from the time I moved here I have been repeatedly shocked by Veteran's Day.  In the UK it is called Remembrance Day and it is still observed with solemnity and millions of people continue to stop what they are doing across the country (including railway stations, airports, etc). to observe the two-minute silence at 11am to honor ...

Free is a four-letter F-word.? It has a similar primal effect for sure- or else it wouldn't be a staple of effective advertising.? Everyone knows on some level it ain't free, it costs somebody- usually them, but they respond to it nonetheless.

I remember that d***m car chase.? I had surgery, and I was planning on sitting around and watching tv - but no - I had to watch the coverage of the worlds stupidest car chase.? Like we care.

But our children and grandchildren won't be unless they had a personal connection and someone keeps it alive for them.? It'll be a story from history.? Our children already have a personal connection because they are and will continue to be fighting a war over it.? I wouldn't be surprised if our grandchildren also find themselves fighting a war over it. ? But... to your point, no I am not missing the point.? The date has...

I think you're just dead wrong.? It was a trauma for our entire country?- not just New York and not only people who were in the buildings. You're missing the point.? Yes, as?a nation we were traumatized.? But our children and grandchildren won't be unless they had a personal connection and someone keeps it alive for them.? It'll be a story from history.? You can't compare the two. ? ?

It IS very wrong if you are lying to get the offering.? Then again, may be you don't consider lying wrong That's hilarious.? No one has any evidence they were lying and you go from that to others condoning lying.....that's quite a leap of non logic.

While serving in the military a simple phone call was enough for them and us, just to make sure they?were alive. Nowadays,?people in the military expect?their families and others to send them care packages. WHAT A JOKE. What on earth do you have against families sending care packages to soldiers?? My brother received them on a regular basis from both my mom and I.? That was 30 years ago.? I sent them to my daughter in Iraq every few weeks.? I...

So, you're not against wasting money...just against waiting money on big business? No I am against both, but I would rather talk about the dollars being wasted instead of the pennies.

The only sense of entitlement I see here from your posts WCP is on the part of the selfish deceitful bar owner.? Not only is he attempting to dupe our veterans but then feels entitled for them to give him money via tips and entitled that they should buy stuff from him. ? Actually tips go to the wait staff and bar tenders.

Yes, let's go back to the roots of Christmas, where we all get naked and party and have an orgy to celebrate the returning of the sun. I think that's a great idea!
