No, the thing that made him a villain was that he was paranoid about anyone that came, convinced himself that they were trying to steal the bird, and killed them. Those people were telling the truth, they weren't 'interesting stories', they weren't bothered about the bird. Well, I'm willing to bet most of them weren't, at least. I doubt he would have listened to reason.

Seems like he was a good guy at first, but its the accusations against him that turned him a bit into a psycho. The thing that made Muntz a villain wasn't accusations. It was the obsession about the bird. What separates Fredricksen from Muntz is a thin line.
