Thread: Is Keeping the baby's sex a secret cruel?

Started 2 months ago by Made-in-83
I am thinking about keeping my baby's sex a secret from my family. I have always thought this was really annoying when people did this. I've been having some issues in my extended family over baby gender. There seems to be this unspoken race as to who will be blessed with the first boy in the family. It's gotten very heated, which is totally lame in my book. I kind of want to keep the sex a ...

I'm horrible at keeping secrets... lol.  So tell us, is it a boy or girl??  lol

No, it's your business.  Let them be left in suspense until the end of your pregnancy.  Life needs a few surprises every once in awhile.  I didn't know what I was having with my first 13 years ago and there was so much excitement after the baby was born.  With this one and my last LO, I needed to know just out of preparedness.  So many ladies are finding out what their having on BBC. I happen to...

I tried to keep our baby's gender a secret but that didn't last long! We have three boys and found out we are finally having a little girl! So it was written all over my face! :) Good luck hopefully you can keep it better than I could!!

Are you saying it's a girl or don't know yet? If you're only keeping it a secret if it's a girl and there's a race for a boy, that's a little odd. If you keep it secret regardless of the gender, then that's your choice and I don't see anything wrong with it.

we are only keeping the name a secret and that is hard enough! I would never be able to keep the sex a secret... Registering would be pure hell on me too, you won't be able to buy anything that is gender specific and show it to others...

I'm also undecided on this matter.  If we have a girl, I really do not want everything under the sun to be pink, so I'm thinking on keeping it a secret until after the baby shower because I want lots of green and yellow, so then I can use my discretion on the amount of pink to add to the wardrobe/room.  Also, my in-laws have this mindset that every man should have a son (and is basically a ...

I would say yes, it's cruel. But it's something I'm excited about and want to share with others.

We go for our u/s this afternoon and will hopefully find out the sex and we are keeping it a secret and telling everyone else that we didn't find out.  We want to know for ourselves but don't want to be stuck with gender specific stuff when it comes time for the shower.  I am kind of starting to feel like its a cruel thing but its yours and your hubby's right to know.  Doesn't mean you have to ...

I don't know.  My SO insists that we keep the sex a secret.  I want totell the world.  I already have 2 teenage daughters and they are dying to know if they are having a brother or a sister.  I REALLY want to tell them that they are having a brother, but SO just won't let me.  GRRRRRR...

You might be feeding into it a bit. However, if it is a girl and you do tell them, will their behavior/attitude cause you stress? If so, I'd keep it a secret just because you don't need any rude/obnoxious comments before baby comes. So in my opinion it depends on why you wouldn't tell them.
