Thread: Is H264 really worth it?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by T S1
I have a 40min. long video that I want to export to put on the web. I originally exported it in MPEG-4 encoding, but when I did that black artifacts appeared in random spots throughout the entire video. My question is, if I use H264 (which takes double the encoding time) will the quality improve, the size of the file be smaller and the artifacts disappear? The footage is in SD and I...

Hello, this is probably a dumb question, but I don't know what to do. I recorded a funeral service, which was about an hour and a half using our Panasonic HDC-HS9 HD video camera. I imported the video to Final Cut Express, trimmed it up a bit and then exported it to Quicktime. The problem is that the Quicktime file is 93GB!! I need to be able to put this on a dvd for the family and I ...

Your authoring application will encode to reduce the file size down to fit on the disc. An hour and a half is a lot to fit on a DVD without professional encoding software. You could try iDVD professional setting and see how it works for you. I hope you're not in a rush; it'll be a long encode. Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space on your computer and probably a good idea to ...

Ok, iDVD is what I have. What do you mean by 'make a disc image and test it'? Thanks

Tom Wolsky replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Making a disc image is a function in iDVD. I can't look at the application now, but if you read the iDVD help menu it will tell you all about it. 15" 2.4G MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.6)...

For some reason I'm having trouble finding the answer to this question. Can I upgrade my final cut express to final cut pro for a cheaper price then having to buy final cut pro from scratch? From what I've read, both final cuts are pretty similar so is an upgrade possible? I've found some posts saying you can, but they were from 2005 and not sure if that is still possible. Thanks...

Short answer: NO. There is no upgrade path from FCE to FCS or FCP. -DH Standards are wonderful ... and there are so many to choose from!...

Most likely there's a transition or effect or music that FCE doesn't support. 15" 2.4G MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.6.2)

No, just install straight from the FCE 4 disc and you will be asked for the FCE 1 serial number plus the new one. 24" 2.8 GHz (Penryn) 4GB RAM iMac   Mac OS X (10.6.2)   Iomega 1TB USB 2.0 HD + LaCie Quadra 500GB HD

Or if you don't want to make your TV the main monitor, just drag the DVD window to your TV screen and then hit fullscreen. I've done this with DVDs and with Netflix playing in a Firefox window and it works fine. MacBookPro 2.66GHz/4GB/5.5TB   Mac OS X (10.5.7)   iMacG5/2.0GHz/2GB, eMac/1.25GHz/1GB. Too much other gear.

First make sure that all render types in the Sequence->Render menus have a check mark beside them - if any didn't place a check mark there and re-render the Timeline. -DH Standards are wonderful ... and there are so many to choose from!

Hi(Bonjour)! You have to choose the setting in easy setup dialog that fit your recorded material. Check in the camcorder audio menu to see the audio setting used on recording. Usually, it'S better to use 48 kHz or 16 bit for video editing in FCE. A drifting synch audio is noticeable after 1 minute in viewer depending of the subject. I've got a such of audio format warning in the past, when captured material shooted with a Sony TRV...

It sounds like you have the trial version of the Flip4Mac. It that's the case, you need to purchase the appropriate version (I think it's the $50 WMV Studio) in order to export your full video. MB Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.11)   FCE 3.5.1
