Thread: Insulin sensitive - Looking for a gainer / carb supplement

Now that its fall, I am looking to go back on a gainer, but I have a little problem. I am hypoglycemic and I am very sensitive to insulin. Any med-high GI carb sends my insulin through the roof and my blood sugar plummeting. Basically for carbs, I eat oats, wheat flour, and some fruits. So that means anything with a simple sugar is out. I see lots of gainers labeled with "complex carbs only"...

oh yeah i also wanted to ask about waxi maize. think that might work for me?

I'd make a home-made weight gainer using oats, peanut butter and milk. I wouldn't want to buy a tub of something and then find out it has maltodextrin in it or you react to it. If you want a powder though, MHP Up Your Mass doesn't contain any maltodextrin (99.9% sure it doesn't) and it's very low sugar. They use oat and barley flour instead.

Many times weight gainers are just high kcal food powders loaded with carbs. If someone is not eating enough for the amount of training they are doing, weight gainers will help. Too many people overtrain and don't have enough ATP left in their muscle cells to repair and grow the muscle. Many newer products like Creatine, Beta Alanine help rebuild ATP and allow more energy for muscle growth. ...
