The aesthetics of single speeds is pretty fun, but compared to my road bike is seriously lacking in utility.
So, one project that I have in mind would involve getting a Mercier TT single speed from Bikesdirect, and at some point in the future install an IGH on the rear wheel with a bar-end shifter. Apparently Sturmey...

I think even that leverage is within the elastic limit of aluminium. Although, an oversized tube made from aluminium is likely too stiff to be flexed by such an extent by your mortal means.

Summertime I prefer shorts. In the winter I have a set of wool dress pants I cut and stitched into shants that work great and cost me 5 dollars. Paying 100+ dollars for pants with the bottoms cut off seems silly to me
