Thread: Installing Britax Frontier in harness mode w/seatbelt

Started 1 month ago by mommymelinda
I just purchased the Frontier for my 4 1/2 and 7 year-olds. I had no problem installing the Frontier with LATCH for my 4 1/2 year old, but my 7 year-old weighs 50 lbs and as far as I can tell that means I need to use the seat belt for installation (along with the Tether). I have a 2007 Toyota Sienna and am installing this seat in the 3rd row, right side (because my 2 yo is in the other 2nd row ...

Just wanted to say I'm another nanny with "my car, my rules." If you have seen this video, I encourage you to watch it and share it with the parents. YouTube - Front facing or Rear facing? I see another set of harness slots on the Roundabout, so I don't think the child is anywhere near outgrowing it. What is the date of manufacture on that seat? I agree that you should transport the child RFing.

She's sitting on the belly pad, it should be up under the buckle on top of her belly Otherwise, loads of room for FF, but wow, she's big! The RA is small, but my huge kid still fit RF in it till she was almost 2.5.

Thank you very much. Do you know if the crash tests have been performed with the stalk twisted? I'm new to all of this.

Jeanum replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Testing has been performed on twisted seatbelts by the seatbelt webbing manufacturer, IMMI, and IMMI determined that up to 3 full twists of the seatbelt did not adversely compromise the seatbelt's strength and crash effectiveness for carseat installations. No more than 3 full twists, though, because performance was found to be negatively compromised beyond 3 twists. There's an Appendix in the ...

Hi again, I just remembered something else that should help reassure you about twisting the seatbelt buckle stalk in your Subaru. The Subaru section of the LATCH manual (a reference book published every 2 years by Safe Ride News with information provided by vehicle and carseat manufacturers primarily focusing on LATCH and tether anchor info.) states the following: Quote:...

51 people looked and no one said anything, you you must have done a good job . If the cupholder worries you, skip it. I haven't even tried mine on my TFP yet... The Sunshine Kids SideRider is light and attaches firmly, I've had good luck with that one

Looks good to me! The only thing I might mention to a parent at a seatcheck is about that unused seatbelt right beside the seat. Just because kids sometimes play with an unbuckled belt - pulling it in and out, wrapping it around limbs, neck, etc., they can be a danger. I've seen a couple posts recently of parents reporting having to cut the belt after a child became entangled and continued to ...

Hello, DD will soon exceed the manufacturers limits for latch installation (40 lbs.) We have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and have the car seat positioned in the 2nd row passenger side (is that considered outboard?) with the "plus one" seat removed and the passenger seat slid over to the middle. I am wondering if we can continue this configuration when the car seat is installed by belt? ...

LISmama810 replied 3 months, 2 weeks ago
Are you saying that the seat the Boulevard is installed on is moved to the middle position? You can use the seatbelt there, but you'll be using the belt that comes from the door frame--not the one intended for the middle. (Unless the '06 is different from my '09.) That means that the belt will cross over the "walkway," which might be inconvenient, but not unsafe as long as you get a good ...

No, the 30-40 degrees is the angle of the back (well, where the baby's back is) to the ground. The seat has two positions, upright and reclined, and it must be reclined rear facing. When you put it in the backseat of an Xterra it'll go very upright. You'd need a noodle or five for a newborn (I needed five noodles for my newborn in my Xterra), but at 10 months you can use no noodles, or just one or three (generally odd numbers...

As far as I can tell, it is infinitely adjustable. There is a knob you turn that moves the head wing/harness piece up and down as you turn it. The manual does not give a lot of guidance for the harness slot position rf. It does state the harness straps should be "at or slightly below" the shoulders. For ff, it specifies that the line drawn between the harness slot and the child's shoulders to determine relative position...

It is infinitely adjustable. The straps do not need to be below her shoulders. *At* her shoulders is the correct position for an infinitely adjustable harness.

Her seat is tilting?

It's because of the shoulder belt. The shoulder belt pulls up on that side of the base, and over time, it tips. Very common. The solution is usually to reinstall, using a locking clip (or lockoffs if your base has them) and leave the shoulder belt unlocked.

With the way it was offset, I did not think it would work. Seat belt would be the easiest way.

If the car's manual says not to touch front seatbacks plural, then it would preclude a rear facing seat touching the driver's seatback as well as the front passenger seatback so I'd double check that out carefully. It's entirely possible there are sensors that affect the force of driver's side airbag deployment, especially if there are side torso airbags mounted on the driver's vehicle seat. FWIW, the wording is...
