Ok so I know he is a film fanatic but can anyone give me a few directors that you think Martin is influenced by or directors that influence him that seem to be kind of re-accruing influences throughout his films?

Bernardo Bertolucci - watch the camera angle when Joe Pesci gets "whacked" in GoodFellas and the way we see the blood shooting out. It's very similar to a scene in The Last Emperor. Also Scorsese has great respect and reverence for David Lean. Great shame about the whole Polanski affair. Great shame.

The directors that are persistent Scorsese influences and touchstones are - Eisenstein, Hitchcock, Michael Powell, Orson Welles, Roberto Rossellini. He himself said once that the cinemas that have affected him ...

My wife ask the single best thing about Marty? He was the greatest film student in history. He took from everyone more than other director but his films are still the work of his artistry.
