Thread: Indoor Eventing... what do eventers think? - EMG Equestrian Community

Started 3 weeks, 6 days ago by Minuet8
I went Monday night to watch the Indoor Eventing, my first time seeing it. My understanding that, in addition to getting the crowd going, the purpose of it is to promote Eventing as a sport. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I have to say, I was not thrilled with the portrayal of our sport. I think that Jessie and Penny put in quite nice rounds, rode with technicality and style rather than just ...

I actually am of the other mind. Save for one horse that was a little on the scary speedy side, I really enjoyed watching the riders this year. I went on the Tuesday night, so I may have seen a different set of rides then you ( I know they are the same riders but they may have gone differently). The only truly scary moments came during Townsends ride, and those were not rider errors, rather the ...

The ones who brought the inexperienced horses did it for that reason. Take Jessica, she had Morrocco, he has never been in an indoor, she said it would be great for him to experience something like this, since Digby has done it before. They do it to but another experience under the horses belt. Kudos to them who take on that challenge. I agree Minuet, some riders did a Very good job with their ...

I credit the indoor eventing at the royal with the influx of yahoos I have noticed in the past few years. I think it does give the wrong impression to those who ...

I was referring to the slip at the top end. I was not a fan of some of his approaches ... didn't blame the pony for the stop at the key hole ...

Exactly Bob, the ones who knew the horses seem to have had better rides. The ones who have never ridden the horse before, did stupid attempts to jumps and caused more interference with the horse. I understand they shouldn't be showing that the sport is all about yahooing around. (though we do love the adrenaline) I hate when people say we just go around and jump it without proper approaches ...

I agree with Minuet, I hate to see our sport looked upon by audiences who can't seem to do anything but gasp in fear as top riders go insane towards fences just to put on a show... It may be a little out of line since I do respect those riders to say that they're making the rest of us look kind of bad. That being said, I did like Selena's round, her horse is gorgeous and I thought it was pretty ...

I have posted my likes and dislikes of it on the other thread. Overall though I don't take it too seriously. It's one night, mostly for a bunch of people who will never, ever see an event. The general public seems to like it, the riders seem to have fun. If they didn't they wouldn't come back year after year. I hope it's hear to stay though. I like that eventing has some role at the Royal.

In a speed class there are two ways riders generally ride, either to add and go for very sharp turns, or to go fast and leave out steps, some can do both. I said it could be done in 8 or fly in 6, but most did it in 7, depending how sharp of a turn they wanted to make it to the bank. Some that tried for the six didn't make it and got a half stride, not agreeing with this but again 10k was on the line and they took a chance. I said it was...

So this is what I think this comes down to... Would you rather not have any indoor eventing, and not have our riders have a chance at $10,000... because we all know that is HUGE in eventing. Or would you rather have Indoor eventing, because it's neat to see when the season is done, and to have riders come from other countries to test it out. Personally I would rather give our riders that chance at 10k! It's only indoor eventing, and...

Right there with you Bob, I guess we eventers really shouldn't have an opinion on our sport until we're winning Badminton and Burghley Just to make it clear I think Oliver Townend is an amazing rider obviously, as well as the others since they are people I respect so much and look at as role models for what I'd like to be doing some day. Also I think the indoor eventing is a great idea, I just would like to see the riders I...

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have opinions. just that it is not our place to be criticizing riders who are obviously knowledgable. I mean, they've done 4*, they clearly know something!
