History tells us that civilization rise and civilization falls.
Dynasty come and go...
It is not within anyone'sr power to stop this change. , even if you have lots of money,,,
Look at what happen to Thaksin and what has happen to many financial giants in the US and UK..
Nature will take its course.. the forces of nature is unstoppable..
Interesting points, but I beg to differ on some predictions.

The People's Action Party may lose power, given the increasing stratification of Singapore society. With decreasing social mobility, disadvantaged classes may transfer their allegiance to a new coalition in a massive swing at the polls.

I think even today, China, like other countries, will be given access to our ports if they wish to make a stopover.
Stationing of troops is unlikely, as it will probably rile some ASEAN countries that have territorial disputes with China.
As for merging with Malaysia, it is quite unlikely. The 'East Germany vs West Germany' example does not apply to us. Both 'Germanies' had a majority...
Malaysia and Singapore merger is a plausible outcome judging from current demographic trends. Please remember the people living in 50yrs time are the babies born today.
"The bigger difference is this. The merging of East Germany and West Germany happened because the poorer E.Germany wanting to merge with the richer W.Germany."
I am afraid that this is far from the reality. In fact this is the typical view of the West here.
My advise I have is to spread your wings if you have the opportunity and money of course. There's a lot of things to learn.
.....Spore merging with Malaysia is definitely the future for Spore..........
.....Hong Kong can survive being absorbed into China with two parallel systems therefore Spore could also do likewise...........
For Singapore to merge back to Malaysia is an unthinkable scenario.
For Singaporeans to need to find work in Malaysia - it is possible..
For Singaporeans to be allow to buy Properties in Malaysia in the next 10 yrs ? - you may be "Blocked" or "prevented",if you act too late..
So,for Parents who hve kids nw, I seriously do not think its an impossible dream for u to start owning a ...

I know enough to say what I say. I have probably spread my wings more aften than you have gone around Newton Circus.
Ask Najib first will he disband the Malay Regiment and who will fly the F16s and F16s, MR or SAF? MR is a racist in nature. Make no mistake about it. Najib knows what it is. Mahathir and Bedawi too.
Being part of ASEAN is good enough for 'winning in numbers'. We must not merge with Malaysia. The Malaysians have turned their country into a store of problems ranging from unchecked corruption to high crime rate. At present, our customs shield us partially from crimes in Johore. If we merged with Malaysia, those crimes might spread inexorably to Singapore. Not a good idea to merge with Malaysia.
ghost posted : <<<<....... "precisely when a lady(Singapore), she does not marry(merge with) any Tom, D1ck or Harry. The lady could easily find a better looking 'mate' than Malaysia............ seas.. ~ Thank you. Don't mind the lecture (to all concerned) : This isn't an English contest - appreciating others shouldn't discourage yourself. If I'd let those better - at whichever stage of my whatever development - intimidate me, I wouldn't have progressed, right? 'Seas' the day (carpe diem!) to improve at EVERY opportunity - it's called a learning moment. EVERY SELF-RESPECTOR CAN DO IT - it's...
I don't there's a choice....you either merge and win in numbers, just like a GRC, or you get absorbed anyway. As natural resources become scarce, only team players get a share of the precious assets. Primadonnas die poor......50 yrs.....very possible.....
CCLCCLCCL - "Merge but who will fly all the F16s and F15s after that? And each loaded with a 10,000 pound bomb" The F16 and F15 fighter aircraft which are in the ORBAT (Order of Battle) of the RSAF (Republic of Singapore Air Force) do not carry 10,000 pound bombs as you alluded to wrongly in your post. Typical bombs by carried by USAF F16s are the GBU-12 Paveway II (weighs 500 lbs ) and the B61 nuclear bomb (weighs 900 lbs)....
I still maintain that it is not worth any economic or whatever advantages to merge with Malaysia again. Fark it! I would rather we all die and sink out of sight on our own. No farking dignity or wat? But I still think we will continue to do well and most likely, far better than our northern neighbour. We are like the small and nippy sang kanchil in their fables, you see!

SINGAPORE..once upon a time... Merge with Brunei? Ha,ha,ha...cermin muka dulu... Look at what racist Spore govt. hv done to malay sporeans....systematically deprived, marginalised after turning them into minority and reducing their common space... Begitulah nasib melayu Spura... Nampak saja gah tapi tiada... Hilang tanah hilang suara.. Seperti pusara yang tiada tanda... God saves the Sultan of Brunei and his people..
