Thread: If you could bring back any game from the days of pre-web and bring it online what would it be?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by rondata
Now, you have to realize, I'm talking about before the web! When games were text and people logged on to BBS boards to play them. I'm not sure of the age group of this place, but if I could bring anything back online, (and I'm talking interactive games) it would have to be TRADEWARS! What about you?

I loved Zork, and I actually FINISHED hitchhikers guide to the galaxy! But zork was not interactive. It was a solo game :) I actually found zork online for my 12 yo recently. He got so frustrated. Living in the age of the web, he couldn't understand why it didn't have graphics. Oh for fun, have you seen this? http://www.defectiveyeti.com/archives/001561.html Parody on bush in zork ...

The Original Legend of Zelda was a sweet game and Tempest was a favorite with it's dial control knob.

I actually finished TEMEST! It stopped after you got so far. That was a rip off but for a quarter what do you expect ? These were not interactive tho :(

Well I think I'm following in the spirit of your question but don't mind if you don't agree: http://lord.lordlegacy.com/ Legend of the Red Dragon. It was a game on BBS released in 1989, before the internet got near where it is today. RPG, you could choose 3 professions and hit on the waitress or bard, and fight monsters for gold. Looked like...

I never played line wars but I do remember Legend of the Red Dragon well. I had a friend who used the name Red Dragon online. It was a mud right? I can't believe I didn't think about Muds. Those were fun. I recently saw one on MySpace apps, but it was not nearly as fun as the muds from way back when :) Also, I hated when they added graphics to muds.. I really liked the fact that you had to use...

Oh, do you remember Tele Arena? I think that's what it was called :P I think the older I get the more my memory gets shot.

There were certain technological advances to the new games that hurt the game experience, but others were great insights. Remember MegaMan/KidIcarus/Faxanadu passwords? Crazy grids and strings of letters you could never remember which were your most recent. Don't remember TeleArena. And I'm sure there are all kinds of things in your past you'll remember clearly decades down the road....

My favorite game I wish someone would bring to the new computer world was Caveman Uglympics. From mate tossing to fire starting the game was a blast to play. It is only available in DOS format, which sucks. Here is the opening screen.
