One of the nicest coach gifts I ever got was a clipboard that was engraved with the names of all the players on the team. It just said "Thank you coach," the team name, the year, and the players' names. I received that 7 years ago and still use it, and think fondly of the kids who gave it to me. All coaches need clipboards, so this is a great gift. Something else you can do is get the rest of the team to pool...

Talk to the whole team and get him a trophy, a small and cheap one. He may already have a lot in his trophy case but make sure this one will stand out with the words, "BEST MALE VOLLEYBALL COACH FOR level AT school/city . YEAR 2009". The point is to make it as specific as possible as to refer to only him and only him and no one else.
