Just finished watching the first season of Deadwood as well and I wholeheartedly agree, Ian McShane is THE MAN. I've lost count of how many great lines ("Whiskey, rum, snatch?"), scenes and monologues this man has throughout these 12 episodes. He OWNS this character and blows everyone off the screen. What amazes me is the range of emotion and depth McShane brings to the character. He's incredibly multidimensional....

Glad more and more people are starting to get a chance to watch and see just how special Deadwood was for the all too brief three seasons it was with us. Keep watching, the show never had a 'bad' episode!

I just started watching Deadwood, and I have to say, I am simply amazed by Ian. Wow! He can be SO scary and yet likeable at the same time...and SO funny. He seems so NATURAL and believable as Al. Even his voice alone, the way he says certain things, can crack me up. I was aware of him before this, but haven't really seen his acting till now. I've seen series one of Deadwood too and he is SUPERB. What struck me most is how Swearengen is the polar opposite of Teddy Bess, the character he played in Sexy Beast . His performance in Beast was all about what he left unsaid, whereas Swearengen, heh, I don't think he leaves anything unsaid! And betwixt those two lies Lovejoy.

I just finished watching DeadWood Season 1 after hearing so much about it. Its fkin great. Al Swearengen is such a fantasic character. I cant wait to start season 2. What amazes me is that this guy played "LoveJoy" . I think maybe my parents might want to see him in this since they were big LoveJoy fans back in the day. --------------------- Please tell me you are not waving your hand in front of my face.

Great observation about Teddy Bass. A very mysterious character indeed. I've seen "Deadwood" and "Sexy Beast" and never realized Al Swearengen and Teddy Bass were the same actor until now. Worlds apart.
