The truth is that their mainstay methods for propagandizing if failing them, they simply cannot run TV ads and send their bought and paid for politicians on Meet the Press anymore: nobody is watching or listening to this BS anymore, not even the republicans. They have to find us on the ground or on the internet and come to us disguised as independent entities that are struggling to be heard....
==> FTA: You will just encourage me to get off gasoline and into a plug-in electric vehicle
As if that'll save you any carbon emission. Here's your clue: Most of those electrons coming out of your wall (for most of us, anyway) come from a coal burning electric plant. Looks cleaner to you 'cause you don't see the exhaust. Go take a drive to your local plant. Tell me how clean it is. You're...
I'm curious - if you took the total cost of owning that car (and you must include replacement cost and irregular maintenance), and added it to what you pay for rent now, might it add up to at least as nice of a place in downtown?
I did this math and ended up saving a couple hundred a month by living in the city center (seattle).
New sources of oil? such as? What little cheap oil producers can find is vastly offset by all the oil fields going dry. For example Mexico's Cantarell Field production decline is well known, and are there any other similar fields being discovered or coming online? Not bloody likely.
Mexico's Cantarell Field production decline is well known Which is why I said they're finding new sources of oil instead of having to rely on the old ones.
There is the issue of getting around in your destination city without your own vehicle. People like driving their own cars. There are options of course: renting, community co-op programs, busses. None are very appealing to people used to being able to drive their own car whenever, where-ever.
Problem is that you let your politicians run your life. Aren't you ranked 3rd in total surveillance just after North korea? From past readings, I think 60% of the petrol cost is just taxes. Of course, Brits don't care, cause most think the govt is out to protect you. Gordon Brown is great, isn't he?
==> With the proper infrastructure they can* have zero emissions. And when they do have zero emissions, then we can talk. Right now you're just blowing smoke up our arses. Including your own. ==> likely you own a car and drive it Less than 40 miles a month. My carbon footprint is about as tiny as it gets. It ain't just the car either.
The problem with that logic is that the best way to GET the zero emission infrastructure (and the only way to eventually get zero emissions globally) is to buy cars that can have zero emissions, so as to take advantage of that zero emission infrastructure when and where it does exist. Saying that the infrastructure doesnt exist yet, so its ok for my car to fart as much bullshit into the air as it can in the mean time (or that doing so is...
What I found is that for some of those trips (I make business trips to Portland), there's a train or a longer-distance bus that's cheaper than gas anyway. Every once in a long while, I rent a car. Still vastly cheaper.
I have to agree here. The company may very well buy these 'credits' or what not, but The electricity is still coming from one source. If it happens to be from wind or water turbine, then that's that.
We've been a pretty dysfunctional democracy for some time now. Brown was not elected as Prime Minister and would have been sacked by now had it not been for the distraction of the rather timely economic meltdown. We're also largely governed via the boggling complexity of European legislation generated by people we don't really know, care or vote on at all. It's been a slow insidious decline, but totally accepted because if...
