Anyone recommend or not recommend The War Zone? After catching Constantine on tv last night I was looking up other movies Tilda Swinton has been in and noticed that this one was direced by Tim Roth. I will probably see it eventually simply because of those two factors but some good recommendations might get me to prioritize it and/whereas nonrecommendations might get me to not.
While I'm...

...and in terms of Jarman in general; he was definitely a Marmite kinda filmmaker - love him or hate him. Being a contrary bugger I neither love nor hate Marmite and feel broadly the same way about DJ.
The two Jarman films I own are Jubilee (1977) and his interpretation of Shakespeare's The Tempest (1979) and I recommend them both highly. I think you'll dig them.
I've been meaning to...

Holden, Tacitus, thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to pick up Orlando, The Tempest and Last of England after work today. I haven't yet managed to track down the elusive War Zone (if you haven't heard back from me by the end of the week... send help!) but I still have to check the best of the local video stores.
Will look into Jubilee as well.
Thursday, I'm pretty hard to disturb...
My little sister just sent me a copy of Who Killed the Electric Car? She tells me I've gotta drop everything and watch it right now. But then, she also swears by Tyra Banks.
Any of you Mofos seen this ruckus? Is it worth watching?

If not you should see Scum, Made in Britain and Rita Sue and Bob Too - the last one for lighter relief cos the first two are grim. Scum was made for tv but wasn't shown cos it was way too ...
I have managed to see Made in Britain and Scum and hopefully I'll soon see The Firm and Elephant. The ones I've seen I've liked, but I can't say I want to go back to them any time in the near future. I'm not really fond of such violent and bleak films, especially when they seem so over the top.
Oops, I completely missed your Alan Clarke question.
One you've got to see is Elephant (1989) but it's gonna be a bugger to get hold of. It's definitely not over the top (though I don't think Made in Britain and Scum were particularly so, it's a question of perception I guess) - hyper realism springs to mind.
EDIT - Now that I remember it, I saw Nuts in May in my local HMV (massive...

If it turns out to be decent, fine, but I won't check it out until...

Nah, the randy smiley was perfectly apt! It's a thread in itself but it would be interesting to check up on phrases we all use in everyday conversation and what they literally mean. I often wonder if anyone understands some of the things I come out with - fair game to me and it's actually the way I speak in the flesh, but to someone who doesn't have English as their first language (or, more probably, everyone who doesn't...
