I currently ride with an ICON Airframe Claymore helmet. It is very comfortable, fits well, has good ventilation, is fairly light weight and looks great. It meets all DOT and SNELL2005 requirements as well. While I havent had any quality issues with the ICON I keep reading the praises of SHOEI helmets on here. I know you cant put a price tag on safety and I absolutely want to have the best ...
Very thorough article that has some interesting side notes. If anyone has the time, its a good read...

My personal opinion, and this may be absolutely wrong, but the top brands of helmet are all going to keep you from smearing your face on the concrete just the same. Impact may be slightly different between one and another, but they wouldn't get DOT/Snell approved if they weren't quality.
For the top brands, the one that comfortably fits your head is the best one for you. Whether it be Suomy, ...

i have an arai and my buddies icon feels like a brick next to it....i know
arai are expensive but don't tell you can't afford a 600 dollar helmet when
you have a 10000 dollar bike..
my X11 is still good after 4k miles atleast
had one before that, but i cracked somones head open with it, it didnt pass the safety test in japan, but the force i hit somone with it has gotta be like face planting at 150km
Also, try on different models within the same brand as they often fit differently. The RF-1000 doesn't fit me quite right (L gives me a headache and XL is a slightly loose), but the X-11 feels like it was custom designed for my dome.
Edit: Yes. That is an RF-1000 in my avatar. When I bought it, I didn't know what I do now.

I agree that the two are no where near each other in quality. Shoei does not personally fit my head but I am aware of the technology and RD that goes into them. I was given a mainframe when I purchased one of my bikes and it was a rock compared to my other helmets. (Arai, Suomy, AGV, even my sparx) I gave it away. Just look at what most professionals or even the fast club guys wear. I have ...
I wore the Shoei around the house last night for about 30 minutes, it started giving me a bad headache. Its just too tight, I am going to exchange it for a large and see how that goes...Should be about a week or two by the time I get this one back to kneedraggers and then they send out the replacement. Their service and exchange program has been top notch though!

My shoei rf1000 was tight at first but after wearing it everyday it felt perfect. I want to custom paint my rf1000. I'll be buying a new helmet soon. I want to get a arai corsair V helmet.
