Thread: Humidifier led to mold?

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by ASBERB
We started using a cold-mist humidifier in our bedroom (baby's still in there with us) and now there's mold on the window sill! Did the humidifier cause it (darned penguin)? What can I do -- just spray with Lysol all the time?

Turn the mist down. If it's making a mist on the furniture, window, etc., it's up too high. My husband got on me about it when I first got one because he thought it would put a mist on our electronics and ruin them, so I learned to test out the mist in whatever room I put it in.

Don't use lysol, won't actually ill the mold wipe down the window sill with a mixture of 1/4 beach 3/4 water. You also might want to get a humidity gauge (you can get one at a hardware store) it will tell you the level in your air and then you can adjust the humidifier accordingly. You may be running it unnecessarily.

typically you'll only want to run it  when the heat is on
