Hi folks,
Found the Auto hubs a pain, backing trailers, clicking away while out in the scrubs and dramas getting the things unlocked every now and then.
I decided to explore and found the device that senses the difference in speed/direction can be poped out.
The press formed steel part (first part inside the hub) has serveral tangs that locate in a grove in the outer hub and can be ...

Folks,
With the hub in the locked posi tip the collar in the hub and work the locating tangs out of the hub assembly.
A bit rough but I don't think the original makers had repair or modify in mind when these jems were first made.
Cheers Dave

Hi Gents/ladies,
Still working well no dramas at all. Been to some nasty place and have found the limits of the LSD I put in the front from a pathfinder (vg30 i think)...
All in all have been happy with the cost and results. I believe new ones were about a $1000, nil to pop out the sensor ring.
Cheers Dave

Hey mate,
I haven't re-assembled them at this stage and don't intend to.
There quite robust and should slide back in easier than getting them out.
Best trick would be to have them in the locked position as you take them off. (From memory).
Also if there playing up check the brass ring inside, ends should protude in the same distance.
Cheers Dave
AVM hubs are only about USD 150-60 a pair, so IF this solution doesn't work in the long run, the cost of a proven solution from AVM vs. replacement hubs at USD1000 (!!) is obvious.
Dunno have easy the AVMs are to fit though?
hey mate, I Just removed the parts as picture in previous posts and then replaced the hub unit bar the steel pressed component. its been best part of three years with no dramas so far except getting muddy feet locking the hubs in Dave

LBJ yes , just leave out those bits and away you go Dont know if it makes a difference or not but I seem to remember someone saying to make sure you have the hubs in the locked position when removing and reassembling them, so I did
GQ hubs are all same - think DX GU are too... You can go AVM if your not hard offroad... If you were in Vic I'd say try Central Wreckers, $80each GQ hubs.

The only thing stronger(at a price) is to get dx manual hubs (and use the inner workings) then use superior enginnerings steel outers. The outers on nissan are aloy(which I run with no hassels)These hubs are strong as even without the steel outers, forget the maual mod to atuo hubs, they are...

When converting to manual hubs, are these parts the ones left out totally as per link above? I presume they are and you just re-fit the hub as bare as pictured below. If someone wouldnt mind just confirming for me, that would be excellent. Cheers http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...utoHubs005.jpg
