Hi and welcome! When I first came here I also felt lost and alone. And, I was terrified. Terrified of the diabetes, terrified of testing, terrified I'd eat the "wrong" thing. It's gotten so much easier with the help and support I've found here! This is a great forum! Triv

Welcome, I'm also a T 2 on metformin. I've had diabetes for 2 1/2 years and it is still very frustrating. I finally got my numbers down then out of the blue they go back up for a week or so. I'm learning that so many things beside food makes your bg spike. I've learned a lot at DD, I'm sure you'll love it here.

Hi, I'm a T2 and take metformin 2,000mg and Janumet 50/500 and I sure do watch carbs! My doctor at first put me on the ADA diet and told me I had to eat at least 40 carbs per meal. Even gave me a sample menu and chart. But that was way too much for me. He next suggested South Beach, then Mediteranean Diets. No mention of fiber or counting carbs or protein, etc. Tho he did tell me to ...

I've had the same meter for 2 1/2 years and just today I had a low battery message, so I went out and bought 2 new batteries. I own 3 meters in case one breaks. I carry one in my purse in case I have to test when I'm out of the house. When he gets that shakey feeling have you tested his bg . Many times when our bodies are use to very high numbers when our numbers approach normal we feel ...

I have had diabetes since 1982 and always had good control until last August when I dropped to 23 and had to go th the hospital. I found this sight and have posted numerous questions to the group, as my situation became like your husbands. I could be as high as 350 and within 40 minutes be down to 40 (normally I am good at 100-120 and that is where I usually had been until last August). This ...

Hi, My father was a Type 1 since age 25. He died of heart problems at 65. Mum is Type 2, she was diagnosed about 20 years ago. My sister is Type 2 was diagnosed at 31 (now 44) and her son is Type 1 since age 8 (now 25). I have just been diagnosed with pre-diabetes at 32. I live in this country with the only support of my husband, and sometimes it’s very hard. We have started ...

Emmjay for months (since I started monitoring my fitness level) I could not get my weight to move. (Up or down) and now things are happening! Just by reading your notes/advice I see the obvious like bsc says lunch cannot be “what ever”, because it leaves a cap for incorrect eating. I have now committed to eating a lean protein at lunchtimes because normally I would “eat out” in town. Once ...

Yes, here we are and we want to help! I am concerned that your husband thinks there is not much he can do. High blood sugar over a long period of time can cause many complications, including heart failure. If his blood sugar was very steady and he had very little high blood sugar his condition might improve. I had some complications with my eyes and neurpathy but then I started using an ...

Welcome Katy, This happens to many diabetics during their lifetime. This is always a "juggling" game at best sometimes. Read "Blood Sugar 101". It is very helpful. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/20585442.php He should work closely with his Dr, or diabetic educator, or nutrionalist. He should be seeing his blood glucose levels changing with injects of insulin. However, finding the right combinations take...

Hi Cari and welcome. I have to agree with the other posters that are suggesting it is not the diabetes that is causing this. Uncontrolled diabetes may exacerbate the problem, but there seems to be an underlying issue if the behavior lasts for a week. You need to look after yourself (both for yourself and for your kids). Best of luck to you. Cora

Welcome Katy. Diabetes is a progressive disease and despite their best efforts some, if not all, diabetics will eventually have to go on insulin.

excercising

High, Welcome to DD. If you can do squats with no weights, I and some others have found it lowers BGs. Hand weights raise my bgs, but when they come down, they are more stable. Squats are good for your lower back. Did they recommend any excercise to strength you knee?

Hello

Welcome to DD. Many people don't look after themselves and don't get diabetes. This would suggest that the genetic defect or environmental stressor that triggered your diabetes isn't your fault. It is up to you know to manage it, but there's plenty of good advice and support here to help you with that. I'm much healthier now that I have diabetes than I was before.
