Thread: How to fix Exhaust cheep? - Yahoo! Answers

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Rob
My exhaust broke off right where it meets the muffler, right on the weld. Is there an easy cheep fix for this. the cars has 174k miles on it so I'm not looking to put a lot into it.

Buy a short nipple and stick it in the exhaust . Use exhaust putty to keep the noise down.

a muffler shop, it shouldn't cost much to weld. you can probably get free estimates.

If you have access to a welder and do not mind getting your hand dirty... find a slightly smaller pipe that fits snugly through the broken exhaust pipe and into the muffler. Weld it in and cover the weld with some putty... cheap fix that will work for some time

You will need to get it welded. If it rusted off, you will need to get another pipe the same size and weld that in. If the weld just cracked, it can be welded back together, but if it is rusted, it will not weld. Exhaust "putty" will not hold anything, it will only cover small holes, there is no strength to it.
