Thread: How should I get this stripped waterpump bolt out?

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by fourdoors
So I'm replacing the waterpump on my Mk4, and I get everything off without a problem except for the lower bolt that attaches the pump to the block. I've completely stripped the inside of the 6mm head. I don't have much room to hammer in an extractor or fit a Dremel. Any suggestions besides putting a torch to it?

Could you get something like these on the head? http://www.harborfreight.com/c...96335

i am unsure of how much room you have, but i use some sockets that are cut inside like a turbo inside. mine are snap on but i have seen them at local partstores. you put the socket over the out side of the bolt or screw and as you loosen it, the turbo like cuts inside grab tighter and tighter with each turn. hope this helps

I've had great luck using torx bits where a hex head has stripped out. Get a torx bit the same size and give it a shot
