Thread: How should I carry a Pa-63 9x18mm

Started 3 months ago by teccles
looking for some advice......is it safe to carry a pa63 9x18 with a round in the chamber and the safety off???? Throughout some other forums I have heard differing opinions....Some say that the DA trigger pull is long and hard enough to allow it.....I have changed out the springs with some from Wolff....I would like to use this gun for CCW and need to know the best way to carry it......Thanks...

I am not an expert, but my answer is NO. The hammer will be resting on the firing pin. At least that is what I understand. When the safety is on it pushes the hammer back and keeps it away from the pin. I have a pa63 and I know the safety on mine is hard to get off. I think there was a thread about a pa63 or a cz82 that a guy carried in his pocket and somehow the safety came off and the ...

One of the improvements in the FEG pistol (compared to the Walther PP, from which it is derived) is a passive safety built into the firing pin. A spring and plunger hold the rear of the firing pin down, out of line with the hammer. A pin in the frame, actuated by the trigger group, pushes the firing pin up and in line with the hammer. The hammer can not touch the firing pin unless the trigger ...

Just goes to show that sometimes you think you know but you really don't know!! Good information. I had no idea that the PA63 functioned like that. Ya learn something new every day of your life. Bob T

I don't carry concealed yet - the judge in my county likes people to have three or four years of Hunting & Target Only before he grants a CCW - but I have a PA-63 earmarked for that role when the time comes. Nice to know it can be carried in Ready mode without having to worry about taking the safety off first.

Manowar's website www.hungariae.com has some great information about the FEG pistols (and other Hungarian weapons). The page on design improvements www.hungariae.com/Feg-PP.htm discusses the improved safety system. It's a great source of information about the FEG's. Sadly, it extended my wish list by quite a bit. I will see if I can find it. I know he said he did not have a pocket holster. Bob T

teccles, I carry my PA-63 with a full clip and one in the chamber and the safety "On". Every time I draw this weapon at the range my personal procedure is to flip the safety, it's hardwired into my brain and I don't even think about it. The safety is nicely placed for my thumb. The heavy DA trigger pull plus the advanced safety makes this a very, very secure weapon for everyday carry, ...

Looks good. I wanted to see how you positioned it. I might give it a try. I modified a fobus to work with the PA63. Its not bad but this would be better. Thanks. Bob T

MLN1963, First, if you already Mexican carry then you'll love the ClipDraw. Second, you're right on with the CLP wipedown when sweat becomes a problem. You should be fine. Tom

If it's anything like a CZ-82, it's perfectly safe. Where I to carry it, I'd have one in the chamber, hammer forward and safety off. The hammer is NOT resting on the firing pin and will not go forward without being charged first. That's all assuming it's like the CZ-82. I personally don't see the point of a safety for a carry pistol unless it's a single action and you carry it cocked and locked.

Whenever I carry, it is the PA-63. I was so surprised by the accuracy. I put 14 rounds of Russian surplus in the x area from about 22 feet. My Smith and Wesson J frame couldn't do that. I have one in the chamber and hammer down. First shot double action.

Since I asked this same question a few months ago, I have carried my PA-63 with one in the chamber, topped off and safety off. It will take a good pull on the trigger to fire in this state of readiness. I carry it in a Fobus holster in the colder months and in a Smart Carry during the summer months. A quick draw and I am ready to fire with a very few steps. I carry my PA-63 with extra mag at all times. Great gun and extremely accurate. IMHO.
