I take 30 units of Levemir divided into two doses of 15 units each. One in the morning and one at bed time. This is a self diagnosis that I've gotten to by trial and error and testing, testing, testing. I've tried various combinations to find the ultimate dosage but for now this one seems to be the best. 6 months ago I was at 50 units, until I went no starch, no legumes, no liquid dairy with my ...
What's weird is my aunt's doctor insulin chart is like 2 units for BG between 100-150 and 3 units between 150-200. She takes two shots a day. My doctor has given me 16 units a day which now might be to high compared to aunts. What do you think about this?
Thanks, Rob
TDD (Total Daily Dose) depends upon many factors -- diabetes type, time of
month (hormones have a big effect), size/weight/age, what you eat, how much
endogenous insulin you still produce, insulin delivery method, and much
more. The answers to this question are so varied that it is meaningless to
even ask.
As the poll suggests Rob, people need wildly varying amounts of insulin. One primary reason, type 2s may well have varying amounts of both insulin resistance and varying amounts of beta cell loss. There's just no way to properly compare except in very general terms.
Even in the type 1 camp where there could be said to be a more "level playing field" of total or near total beta cell loss, there...

If there is one thing that might be a bit unclear about the poll, it's why does it stop at 55u and why such fine increments. But in the end that doesn't matter too much, because you can see from the results that there's not much to be learnt from considering how many people inject "30 - 35" units compared to "35 - 40" - the small categories actually reinforce how big a spread there is between...

I use 18 units of Levemir split among 3 doses each day and around 6 to 8 units of Novolog (unless it's dinner with friends...then the Novolog flows!). Jen
hi all..i voted in 20 to 25 of which half are levemir and half are novolog...but I gotta say I found it totally fascinating how many ppl voted in the above 50 or so range..i was really, really shocked..goes to show how varied our needs are....my friends dtr often takes a 1/2 unit correction via mdi which might seem like a waste to some...but it nails it for her I'd be interested to know BG ranges that correlate but don't know how to...
