Thread: How many words a day do you clock in?

Started 4 months, 2 weeks ago by Adam Rich
Personally i try to type atleast 750 - 1000 words a day, that's around 3/4 pages, and if i'm really creative then the maximum is 1500 words or a little bit more before i mentally implode and run as far away from my manuscript as i can for the entire day by watching tv, going out, basically doing anything but 'writing that particular story' so my mind can rest a bit and chip away at any ...

Depends on the story and the flow of it. If I'm having a bad day of staying on track with it, then if I hit 1,000 words I'm lucky. Lately, on the story I'm doing for the NaNoWriMo thing I see to be doing between 2500 and 3,000 words a day. On the action story I'm very close to finishing it seems to be 1500 to 2000 words. Now, I just have to hope when I get back to work fully on my sequel to ...

I've never tried to time myself. I just handed in a 25,000-word MS that took me about three weeks to write. That comes to about 1200 words a day, if I count weekends. R

I'll take a Saturday. I'll sit down at the computer at 8. I'll take lunch and coffee breaks but do no Internetting, emailing, or anything like that. I'll be too tired to continue at abput 10.00 at night. In that time I'll write about 10,000 words. I also take the odd evening where I'll try to write 2,000 words. So my 100,000 word novel took a bit under three months to get into its ...

R I blame 'Microsoft Office Word' for my sudden interest in 'word count' because that feature isn't present in the normal Wordpad or notepad, and i always used the latter ...

That's basically what I've been doing all weekend. Though it's not firm steady writing since I'm on the computer typing that's hooked online so I'm surfing and writing.

I don't try to write every day, I just pick it up when I feel like it, or I have the impulse that I have to write. I go from anywhere between 250 words to 3,000 words depending on the scene and my mood. If my hearts not in it I don't try. As for the books they run between 63,000 and 90,000. I promised when I finished my last one, which I finished last week (it's called ...

Well, you can try starting all three so you can work on the one that feels right that the time since anything can be rewritten if after you start focusing on one you find something doesn't fit. I'm doing the multi-tasking thing right. Writing on my Nano novel, doodling with the sequel to my first novel(Ian needs full attention to reall get him down) and tidying up an action novel that's ...

Adam Rich wrote: I envy your discipline, i wish i could sit down and just type away for an entire day. That was a children's story. So it was a case of "what happens next ..." James Joyce used to write only a hundred or so words a day, but it was very dense, literary prose, almost poetry. What matters is firstly to finish, but then to roduce ...

Perhaps, but it would look more like a 'book' if it had 30,000 words with a 20pnt font perhaps? Or 30,000 at 2pnt font? I have just had a look at one of my book files and it has 69,000 words at 11pnt garamond over 260 pages, It looks like a novel. (Around...

Adam I agree. I have a little note book split into sections. Ones possible book names One is just general thoughts or things I notice in everyday life. And the final one is the actual plots to the stories and the characters names. As a suggestion, try the 5 whys way of plotting a story. Everytime you get stuck ask why is the character doing that, why would they go there, why do they have to do that, why is the character involved etc etc. It...

A lot depends on what I am working on and what my goals are for the piece. I can spend several days on a 900 word short story, getting it perfected. I've also done 12,000 words in a long day of productivity (that was part of a National Novel Writing Month effort). When I am working on an ongoing project, 2,000 to 3,000 words is a solid day's work.

i try to atleast write 1000 words or more in a day if i dont have major writers block. the only issue i have with my writing is that i can speak it better than i write. like when i am walking down the street i verbally talk my story to myself and the flow is good. but when i get to my computer and start to write it i go brain dead trying to remeber what the heck i said.

I wrote my book in the 2 hours a day when my little boy had a nap! Knowing i only had that hour or two really focuses the mind and i could easy manage 2000-3000 words (i think) in a day, other spare moments were spent plotting the framework and chapter structure of the book, so every time i sat down i would be immediately writinng. The book took a year to write (i stopped writing during school holidays) and another year to edit it and make it...

I generally write about 8,000 - 10,000 words per day when I´m working. Seeing my comp was stolen, I haven´t written anything in a couple of months. I started in 1984 (Portentious!) and have, if I remember, 93 books on Lulu. and 14 that may or may not be published. On three of them (all three nominated for (ugh!) awards) the writing was in two day and one night sessions where 25,000 - words were turned out per session. I am impossible to...
