Thread: How many calories did/do you eat when bulking?
Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by ilove2ski
I know we're all different, but I would be interested to see how many calories others eat in the bulking phase. The perhaps I could get a rough idea of how many I should be aiming for.
I'm 5'10'', currently 154lbs (72kg) and want to put muscle on and eventually get rid of about 20lb (10kg) of fat (that's just a guess though, not accounting for how much the extra muscle will weigh).
...
when i bulked a few years ago for ~16 weeks my cals were generally
within the 2,500-3,000+ range. the highest i hit was 3,500.
i went from 138ish to 150lbs, which seemed to be a plateau for me (i'm 5'9).

not that i felt *really* uncomfortable with it. i was bigger, but not flabbier.
fat looks better with muscle underneath
the scale initially went up by 3-5 pounds - glycogen and water ...
Thanks Miranda! You're a big help (I would rep but my computer won't let me )
Do you mind if I ask how long each bulk/cut phase was? I'm new to all this, so I'm sorry for all the questions. Well.....actually I'm not totally new to BBing but a few years back when I was doing it I didn't learn much about it, I was kind of doing 'whatever' and it just happened to work....though I could ...

Thanks again so much for all your great info. It helps to have a realistic time frame in mind for the results I want to achieve...though of course I know we're all different, but it still helps to see how long people took to get there....

Dude I bet you got super strong in the process. Nice freaking work.

Once you go to cut, you'll have to bust your ass even harder to get rid of the fat...not the route you want to go. The focus at this time should be lowering body fat to see what you have to work with underneath. Once you lean out, then...

I read somewhere that more growth hormone is released with higher reps, but also that lifting really heavy is important for strength...If you combines the two would you have the best...
