Best buy in a medium frame revolver. Stronger than a K frame magnum Smith and Wesson. Here is my Police Service Six 4 inch. This is the fixed sight version. This revolver was the competition to the famous model 19 Smith and Wesson in law enforcement.
Good luck,

Over the years, when Ruger made them, I owned 2 stainless Security Six.
I am the type person who likes HOT LOADS.
I like to compare it to the old Smith & Wesson "N" frame models 27 and 28 .357 Magnums. They were build EXTRA STRONG. I put the same hot loads, that I shot in my 28 through the Security Six. The Security Six loved the loadings.
I want the 2 3/4 inch the kid up the stree stole ...
I've owned several and prefer them to the new Ruger DA by a wide margin. I read some where that they were too expensive to make and the GP-100 is the cheaper way to do it. I believe it because the old SS had soul, the new revolver doesn't. YMMV!

The story is told about the Ruger salesmen throwing them around the range and then driving over them before shooting them.
Bill Ruger said in an interview that he figured they'd never made a penny off the Speed/Security/Service-Six series if you counted all of the design and develpment costs and such. They were too expensive to make and could only be sold for as much as the market would bear...
Quote: my friend came in possession of a 3" SS security six model. How rare and good are they, The 3" models are more rare than my 2-3/4" model. All I know is that any Security Six in good shape has close to doubled in price since about four years ago. Two key factors driving value on Security Sixes: They are very well made pistols, and they are out of production.....no more are going to be made. A Security Six will...
Like glocks? Where did I say I liked glocks? I've never owned one, never will, don't like em. But I've had numerous tries at shooting them thanks to a fellow shooter that owns 2. And the Witness-P is gone too. LK
JWM, Go fine yourself another one. The prices are going to go up. I bought my Police Service Six for $350.00. Now some people would say thats too much. But I been seeing them now for $425.00. This is in California. The Ruger Security/Service/Speed six line is the best kept secret in revolvers. The Smith and Wesson 19/66 has the fame. I have both and I will tell you that my Police Service Six is a better all around revolver than my two...
Quote: I'd quit shooting before I uglified a gun with black rubber grips. Yuck!. Many better options. Heh, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel.
Quote: Quote: The one downfall of the Security Six and it's cousins is that these revolvers had quite possibly the worst grips ever installed on a revolver. Yes, but that's so easy to fix it's not worth making it an issue....it's called Pachmayr grips. The OP does not live in the U.S. and I'm not sure how available aftermarket grips are in his area. Because of this, I thought it prudent to bring the issue to his...
My friend bought the Ruger SS with serial number starting by 150xxxxx. He is unable to find grips for it. Any help would be great. Hogue does not have 'em.
This is a heresay story, I was not there, but it came from some reliable sources who supposedly were. FLETC in Glyco GA, supposedly shot Ruger Sec. 6, various Smith K frames (I don't think the L frame was around yet) side by side, torture test style, and supposedly, the ruger sec6 outlasted the others by a wide margin. Ammo was likely the .38 +P+ "Treasury Load". Also, The Border Patrol issue revolver for a while, was...
It's a tank. It's an absolute tank of a gun, and I mean that in the most endearing, loving way possible. The internal lockwork is a lot simpler than S&W revolvers, meaning it's a lot more "home gunsmith" friendly. My only complaint about the one I had was that the single action trigger wasn't great, but hey, it's a double action revolver! If you shoot it single action, you're doing it...
