Thread: How do you know YOUR religion is right...?
Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by BridgetsMum
Based on discussion in the Homosexuality, Marriage, and Children debate, a few questions came to me based on the religious aspect of it...I posted it in a reply there, but as Tina pointed out it was a rather seperate debate, so i'll just copt and paste most of it here.
I can't help but wonder how you know that you are right? How do you know that your religion and belief system is right?...
I don't believe in God. I believe he is something that was made up and people tend to believe in him because it makes them feel better (life after death, being with family eternally). I believe there is absolutely no scientific evidence that he exists and have a hard time understanding how people believe things in the bible, etc. I have thought through all of this very thoroughly and looked at ...
I have a relationship with my God. I have seen miracles take place. I believe there is historical evidence to prove Jesus existed and I believe I DO know God exists.
If I'm wrong and He isn't real (which is completely hypothetical), no harm done. IF I'm right, it's eternally significant.
as for your other question in the other thread, I'm going to answer it here since it's faith related...

So what if we ask for forgiveness and then recieve it and do not forgive others for the sins they have made?
Back to the other topic just a little, sorry.
God has reconsiled all of us through the death of Jesus and made our sins not count against us. In that case punishment for the ...

I assume this is directed at me. I really really really believe that I am correct. For the sake of argument, though, if I am wrong, I really am not concerned. I live a good life...
uh, I don't think Tina was saying someone should believe in God "just in case" and yes, God can see through that.
Tina, yes, a repentant heart even though not every sin might not be able to be listed. Would you agree that someone who is in a gay lifestyle has no intention of turning form their sinning?
The difference, you can verbally confess that you know (let's say you lied on the ...

Yes, we must forgive others. Absolutely. It's what God says. Was ...

I believe I am doing what is right. I am not religious or spiritual. If I am wrong, whoops but in all honesty I don't care. I am not concerned about "just in case" and find it comical that there are people that are of this persuasion. *Note: I am not laughing at anyone for being religious or having religious beliefs but rather those that feel they must subscribe to something "just in case."

I don't need to prove my faith to anyone. I have seen enough miracles in my life time to know that I am right. The only opinion that matters when it comes to my faith is mine.

Should people try to prove religion? In my opinion, no. It's supposed to be based on faith, not fact. If we have factual proof that God exists, then what exacting are we believing in? Although, we have factual proof that the world is round, and most people believe that to be true...yet some don't. As far as science disproving faith...I don't believe that either. There is plenty room for both, and they often support each other.
