I remember reading in thread that you can do this, but I cannot find it. So how do I check if I am using a 2.4GHz or 5GHz internet connection?

You don't use a 2.4GHz or 5GHz connection. You use Dial-UP, DSL, LAN or some kind of other internet provision. 2.4GHz refers to the 802.11 b and 802.11 g wireless LAN protocols, using 11 Mbit/s and 54 Mbit/s. 5GHz is used with the 802.11 n standard with a net bit rate 600 Mbit/s. Hold down the Option key while you click the wireless icon in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Right next to the channel number will be what you're asking.
