In the book, if Gandalf had a plan, he didn't tell anyone what it was. When Aragorn took over as leader of the Fellowhip, he didn't have a plan, and really wanted to go to Minas Tirith rather than Mordor anyway. That's why Frodo was desperate enough to work with Gollum, none of his other friends had ever given him more of a plan than to vaguely head for Mordor and hope they stumbled over a ...

I think that Gandalf knew about those secret stairs but he would not have use that road because Minas morgul was place where 7 of the 9 lived. Also there was chance that first Sauron attack against Saruman (Sauron knew that Saruman was after the ring). Sauron would have sent Nazgul (all nine) to isengard and some of her army. Saruman had great army at that time. Distance between Mordor and ...

In the book, if Gandalf had a plan, he didn't tell anyone what it was. When Aragorn took over as leader of the Fellowhip, he didn't have a plan, and really wanted to go to Minas Tirith rather than Mordor anyway. I think that Gandalf knew about those secret stairs but he would not have use that road because Minas morgul was place where 7 of the 9 lived. Saruman had great army at that time. Distance between Mordor and Isengard is long so that would have give extra time....
