Thread: How can I make my mantel POP? Pictures

Started 1 month ago by oakleyok
Let's try this again. :) Anything I add to this mantel I'll need to buy. I'm completely out of accessories since we added the room. And I don't want to spend big bucks. Don't you think it needs some bold color? The wreath is obviously too small, so if I keep the wreath stand there (which I kind of like), I'll need to get a bigger wreath. The clock needs to stay. WHAT I DON'T WANT: ...

Will the walls be the white color on the bottom of your color palette?

linnea56 -loved your answer-I am older-I'm the grandma. I don't want to be old fashioned or issue rules. Its just that when I entertain-I want everything to be lovely as I learned it-I want my family to be cherished and welcomed-I want the ambiance of the occasion to be felt and enjoyed. If I have candles, its not "wow your mother went over the edge this time..." I don't mind the dishes to clean ...

I literally just washed the patio doors on Saturday and three days later they look dirty again! We live out in the country back off a dirt road. Dust floats everywhere when people fly down the road. That could be part of the problem. We're pretty far back, but still. All of your that have tons of those beautiful big windows, do they stay clean?

golddust replied 3 months, 1 week ago
No. My windows look like yours. I live in the country too. As soon as the weather and dust settles, I'm thinking of hiring a professional window cleaning service. My baby carrying/window washing arm is all worn out. I can't hardly wash windows anymore. I wash one large window a day and my arm kills me. I have no idea what a Dr would say was wrong with my arm. I call it 'Baby Arm'.

I personally would not go for a second night stand that is the same. It is too matchy-matchy and you will lose the Hollywood glamour look that you want. Let that one night stand be one focal point. To stand out, print the wall behind your bed a brigther color such as a strawberry red with your zebra print on top of the bed; the white bed, the mirrored night stand, and the black of the zebras ...

This is a very up-lifting thread :) OK, here's mine: Sitting on my screened-in deck in my lounge chair reading a magazine......Baked macaroni and cheese.....Early morning when everything is quiet except for bird chirps; the sun rising.

Reading on my porch on a chilly fall day - it's a 3 season porch but on a sunny day it's cozy often into early November. The way my dog sleeps and puts one paw over my foot - as if he's showing ownership or making sure I can't sneak away! The Sunday paper and a cup of coffee.

I'm no longer mad just bummed. I think I was more upset at their customer service. Anyone have any luck? . .

London Clay is masculine and could work as a strong accent wall. Depending on the room and furnishings, something like that might work. It's a color that would play off the blue. Quite dark though. The Light Blue looks so green over here. Almost like a Silver Sage. Very pretty color : )

WOW! Guess what I'm doing with the fake garland above the cabinets? :) It looks very, very elegant! I'm saving your photos. Didn't you have any issues with bugs/spiders? I brought a bunch of clippings in for the buffet and killed at least 10 spiders. Ick. I even shook them off before I brought them in! I swore never again. I need to get some trees planted in my yard!

I think they are too dark and too much the same color as the other 4 you have in the room already.

what about this color? (link compliments of squirrels search efforts) How would painting a piece (whether it be this dresser or another one) affect it's resale value? I also would love to find this color, anyone care to check their pant decks for me? http://home.aol.com/diy/photogallery_cl/_a/dresser-up/20080312162209990001

Jama, Yes, butcherblock would be a good idea. I initially thought I might do that too but it would have become a bit too distracting in this smallish space since the cupboards were going to be different than the other cabs and out of sight is a freestanding antique cupboard. My hardware is VERY special; outta-the-bins from Lowes...a burnished bronze...not as dark or matte as the normal ORB can be. Maybe $2.99 each. The hinges I picked from my...

Top loaders are a different situation, HarrietH. They use more water, so they need more soap. The repairman said that my front loader uses only 4 gallons of water in the wash cycle. A top loader uses more than that.

The back to back sofa arrangement is a difficult concentration of "mass" for a room to take. It works best in a very balanced arrangement when the sofas are identical pairs. I think you would be better off balancing the table in the side of the room opposite the seating arrangement, rather than on the fireplace...in other words further off to the left so that the mass of the table is balanced with the negative space in the seating...
