Thread: How bad does your acne have to be to go on antibiotics?
Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by BrokenJohn
I've had acne for years and years and nothing seems to work, I've been using BP and other stuff for months on end with no results and it's really affecting me. I was told by someone to go to the GP and ask for antibiotics but I'm a little unsure on whether I should go because I see people with worse acne than me who don't care but I really hate the way I look. I'm scared the doctor ...
I have been on antibiotics which was a waste of time. They work very well, but they wear off. They are only a quick fix. My acne is mild by the way and my dermatologist is going to prescribe Accutane for me and even though I have mild acne, I truly need it. It is very persistent. Message me if ya need help!
sole antibiotics therapy is for mild-moderate acne. They also use combination therapies now (antibitoics+BP or they can also term it as antibiotic+antimicrobial), or they also use (BP+salicyclic acid),etc... whatever works for your skin.. resistance to antibiotics is getting common, so they're trying combis instead.
QUOTE (Warrior of Acne @ Nov 5 2009, 09:15 PM) Even one spot, a lot of my friends have been on them with extremely mild acne :/ well i guess it depends on the doc. some doctors are very nervous and quiet and will give in to the will of the patient. others have been in the game a long time and will say, you have no problem you're not being put on antibiotics. anyway i found them...
I've been on doxycycline for the past 3 months and have had literally zero change in my skin! My acne is located on my cheeks and is a lot more prominent on my right. I went into the doctors and she prescribed me doxy, I didn't have to ask... Good luck anyway.
Well first off there is no way your doctor is going to laugh at you be a man and go. It's probably not even all that bad, currently for the past 4 days I've been on PanOxyl(BP) + Lymecycline so far I'm clearing up fast just really dry but not flaky. So yeah best to go see your GP they are there to help.
So I went to the doctor in the end and was prescribed tetracycline 1000mg a day for about 6 months, it's making me feel sick every time I take it. Hopefully that will stop soon.

QUOTE (MINIac @ Nov 22 2009, 10:43 PM) I was put on antibiotics the very first time I went to a dermatologist. I have moderate to severe acne. The problem with antibiotics is that since they ARE antibiotics, the more you take them, the more your body becomes immune to its effects. I was on Doxycycline for two years. Now I am on Doryx, which is the name brand of Doxycycline. It isn't working on me. Another problem is that...
